What powders.would you choose if you could have only 3 to cover everything from pistol to magnum rifle.

Me:
1. Unique
2. 4198
3. 4350

I could live with Red Dot, SR4759 (RIP) and 4831 as substitutes, but that is a good list and nicely covers off Cast Bullets in pistols and rifles as well. 4198 is a bit slow for all but the largest Magnum Pistols (this is where SR4759 was a bit better), but shines in large bore rifles.

Yeah, there are holes in my list. Unique covers a lot but there is a gap at the top end of the magnum pistol performance. I almost chose 4227 instead of 4198 for that reason but that opens up a bigger hole in the rifle performance. 4198 is just so dam versatile it's hard to say no to it.

Unique literally works in everything rifle-pistol-shotgun, so that's a no brainer for me.

4350 is another compromise, I could also be happy with with 4895 /4064, except loading a 300mag to 30-06 level seems kind of pointless, and that figured in my decision.

Hmm.

1. Unique
2. 3031
3. 4350 or maybe 4064

I have a good 9 lbs. of Unique and around 15 lbs. of Ammo Mart 44 (close to 3031), so I could live with those two. (The 44 is still good. It was stored properly.)

Scary to think of no powder being readily available. I have enough of various powders to last me well into my next life. Not gloating, just stating the facts. Over the years, I bought powder when I had the chance. When I was at Rose Valley, I would go to Tisdale and visit with Harold Haugen at his gun shop, and always came home with a couple pounds.

I have 20+ pounds of each right now.
These ARE the 3 only powders I currently stock (ok I do have 3 lbs of H110 also for my 44 mag...), I can do many pistol, short action rifles and long action rifles with only these 3.

I could probably make do with blue dot for 45 acp and 356, IMR 4064 for 308 and 243, and IMR 4831 for the rest. Or swap the 4831 for Reloder 22.
