On my sks, I have a 10 point 3-9x40-45, I k owners not a 55 mm, but it holds zero well, looking for options for a tactical, or tacticool rifle

On my Remington 783 I have a Tasco Silver Antler, 3-9x55mm scope, it holds up well, but was told drop that scope because the optic size they mentioned was too large

And finally a Remington 700 long action, the guy asked me what scope and I thought I'd ask the experts haha

Biggly'n has it right.

Nope, he should first buy junk, followed something that doesn't immediately seem like junk but turns into it as it ages (or he learns something, or horror of horrors turns the knobs), followed by something in the mid to upper midrange. Three days before he dies he can get the good stuff that he already paid for but doesn't have. It is totally unreasonable to expect him to be smarter than the rest of us.;)

Ewwwwwwwwwpzss...............

Personally, I like the Voetex line of scopes. When you own more than 1 or 2 rifles, glass becomes a major investment. It's nice to own top of the line, and I do own a couple of "good" scopes (Zeiss, and Leupold), but I rum a lot of Vortex as they are a good quality scope that won't break the bank. They also have the best warranty that I've ever seen, with no hassles. Went down the Falcon Menace path a few years ago, and now I have a $500 paper weight. Vortex offers the same warranty whether it's their $250 Crossfires or their 2K PST. I've had a problem with one of their scopes: call the CANADIAN repair center, talk to lady there, send in. Pretty simple. Lots of people talk about "buy once-cry once" and that can be true, but if you have 10 rifles sitting with glass at $2K/each that's not a hobby-it's a down payment on a house. Putting a 1K scope on an SKS??? Vortex is not much more than the NC Star or VISM scopes that are bargain basement, and will give you 10X the value

Crossfire's are made in China aren't they?
For $50 I'll use a Chinese Simmons etc on a rimfire but that's about it. The last 2 scopes I bought recently were a Nikon Prostaff 2 in 3-9x40 and a Redfield Revolution in 3-9x40, both were $249 new, Nikon is made in the Philippines which are decent, and Redfield are made in the US.
Nobody should ever spend that kind of money on Chinese scopes....even Banners start at $70 and would be a better buy (made in Korea).

There are almost as many opinions as there are scopes. I'm not a sniper or a long range target shooter, I'm a hunter. I'm an old fart on a limited income so I shop around and I've done very well. I had a Vortex Crossfire which gave me problems and they promptly replaced with a new one. If I needed a scope now, I'd buy one of their Diamondback scopes in a heartbeat. As it is, my last purchase was a Redfield Revolution which I purchased used off the EE. Catch this; $220. with Butler Creek scope covers shipped from BC to Ontario and the scope is like new (thanks Kelvin). My big thing is finger adjustable turrets where you don't need a coin or screwdriver to adjust your point of impact. If you buy used glass you may run into problems when it comes to warranty issues, except from Vortex. Nikon, upper-end Bushnell, Redfield, Vortex are all good value for the money and if you shop around for dealer sales or on the EE, you can get what you need without breaking the bank.

I agree with the warranty issues, banner dawn to dusk scope
Ill have to look on EE, but a Nikon would be my preference

I've had very good luck with sightron, life time warrenty and their scopes are about %25 less then the equivalent competition weather it be Bushnell, Nikon, Leopold , ziess of even nightforce( depending on whice tier you buy) excellent glass, good tracing and I haven't had to use the warrenty on either of my sightrons, unlike my vortex diamond back hp whice I had to send in for a tracking problem( not knocking vortex, I'm very happy with mine just one little problem with it)

I have owned no less than 15 vortex optics....... I was a big fan... Of the last 7 I purchased, 4 of them had to go back.... Including an $850 viper pst...... The best warranty is one you never have to use...

All my plinking and light duty rigs have a Nikon prostaff on them, and my bigger kickers and hunting rifles have Zeiss Terras on top..... I will never buy another vortex or hit the brakes on my vehicle if there is one laying in the road...

I have to agree with the Nikon's....the latest versions of the Prostaff are really nice scopes.
First Nikon I got was a few years ago, a NOS batch Tradex brought in had a 4-12x40 for $170 I think it was. Glass was nice and clear, had great eye relief, and it was a long streamlined scope I could mount nice and low.....sitting on a Vanguard .243 presently. Only thing that bothered me was you could see the 4 Phillips head screws inside the tube around the edges...always bothered me, but was common with the lower priced Philippines scopes....Trophy is the same to this day.
The new scopes are even brighter, same eye relief, little heavier built, and NO MORE SCREWS in the tube....lol. I don't know what the fix is for that, likely just blackening of the edges of the glass. I'd put it as the best <$250 scope you can buy today. This one sitting on a Howa 6.5x55.

If I could find a votex that is decent price, I mean my range haha, the 700 would be a decent fit with the sidewinder , and rhe smaller ones I see some ppl use, the sks and 783 I think would be decent too

Tossing a bit of caution on the Diamondbacks.
Make sure you check eye relief on these if you're going to put
them on a somewhat recoiling rig.
