30-06 How many is too many?

To me a rifle serves a specific purpose. You might have a heavy barrel varmint/match rifle suitable for shooting at long range, a quick handling carbine length deer/scout rifle, a long barrel plains game rifle, a mid-length barreled rifle equipped with iron sights for dangerous game,, and perhaps a rifle that is dedicated to cast bullet shooting. If all of these rifles are chambered for the .30/06, your loading die and component selection is simplified. As German Salazar has proven, a rifleman armed with a .30/06 can be a dangerous competitor in any genre.

I've had the same one for almost 40 years for my hunting rifle, but one additional as a collectors rifle Brazilian mauser 30.06

I have 2. Both are hunting rifles but they're set up to do different things. One has a carbine length barrel and the other rifle length. One's set up for close to medium range hunting and the other for medium to longer ranges. I take the carbine when I think I'll be walking most of the day and the rifle when I'm going to be posted up in a tree stand or on the edge of a cut all day.

You can have as many as you want. There are those who look down on owning firearms that aren't being used, and those who don't pay any attention to the idea. I recently scooped a NAACO 30-06. It's on an FN action, and is a Canadian product. Will I ever actually use it for hunting? Nobody's affair but mine.

Have fun. Be safe. :)

One for this guy. I don’t believe in excess and I only use one at a time. When I’ve got two of something or am considering buying another of something I already own I evaluate each and decide which is better. The one that’s “not” the best goes down the road. When it comes to evaluating a rifle there are many metrics that have to be evaluated to decide which is best but once it’s decided I’m never going to use “second best” so it gets sold. My ‘06 is a kimber 84l with a 2.5-8x36 vx3 and shoots a 168 ttsx at 3k FPS. It’s kicked all of my 270, .308 and 300 mags out of my safe.

One is too many, have only ever owned 2, buy a box of ammo, never shoot it, then sell. Just doesn’t scratch any itch that I have and I have quite a few that still need scratching. :)
