30-06 loads....list them!

50 gr IMR4064, CCI 200, FC case, 165gr Hornady BTSP - 2800fps.

I'm constantly blown away at how accurate this load is (22" M70 EW)

I've never used 4064 in the '06, but I see that many people do and rave about the accuracy they get. With 4064 being a faster burning powder than the more common '06 powders the velocity will not be quite as great but for most hunting it is still plenty. I think I'll try some of it. Tiny groups at the range gives me confidence in my rifle when trying to make a tough shots in the field!

For what it's worth, the test targets shot with Cooper 30-06s is a 168 SMK with 4064. Charge in the high 40s somewhere. Common enough target load back in the day.

2800fps with a 165gr is plenty of velocity for me, and with groups like this I stopped trying to push it any faster.

FWIW Sierra's top .30-06 accuracy loads with 150-168 gr bullets all feature IMR4064: 150 gr-51.2 gr 4064 @2900fps; 165 gr-47.9 gr 4064 @ 2700 fps; 168 gr-45.9 gr 4064 @ 2600 fps.

Lyman's top accuracy loads are; 150 gr-48 gr 4064 @ 2695 fps; 165 gr-52 gr 4064 @ 2851 fps. They give a nod to IMR4895 for 168 gr match bullets.

My starting loads for testing new .30-06s with 150-168 gr bullets always use IMR4064. I start with 48 gr 4064 for 150 gr bullets and 46 gr IMR4064 with 165/168 gr. These are well proven Garand compatible loads. The next test iteration is with IMR4895. There's seldom a need to look beyond these 2 powders. You'r stuck with them in a Garand anyway. What a happy situation.
