Fact is...The fella is going to do, what he is going to. He didn't come here to ask permission, and certainly not to be judged. It was just a question, nothing more. Why the need to type all of that crap out? Do you really think that is how things happen? The feller is going to buy a box of ammo, read a chart, zero his rifle, and then shoot a moose a zillion yards away? Think about it. If it were to happen that way, my money would be on the moose.

If OP only wanted to know how far an aught six carries enough energy to kill a moose, then he could have answered his own questions by typing in ".30-06 ballistics" into a search engine and been done with it.......
Open ended questions that don't factor in any of the variables solicit open ended answers that do......
Or maybe OP is just a troll, in which case, who cares?

Kind of looks like a ballistics type question? With a request to leave the rest of spew out of it?

Im back, im not a troll I simply stopped reading because of the answers people were giving were far beyond what I was asking or wanted to know but people were still keeping this thread alive lol. thanks to the people who gave an honest thought or real world experience which I was after

Shoot a moose? No...but, shoot at a moose? Absolutely. There is no doubt that guys exist who will try this; I know a couple myself. I have spent more than my fair share of time trying to argue against this kind of behavior with such acquaintances. Am I judging them? Frigging' right I am. Funny how it's a good thing to have "judgement", but it apparently becomes a sin to use it. I was not, however, "judging" the OP. I opined that the entire thread and question, and especially the manner in which the question was posed, was silly. Apparently that means I am judging him...in your judgement, at least.

Then why didn't you just run the ballistics on the .30-06 and bedone with it?... the fact that you didn't even do that and answer your own question, speaks to why you got the responses you did.......
You can't ask for "real world experiences" as you say, and expect to get a straight up answer while expecting real world experiences... really?..... you either take Rman's line of thinking of a straight up answer or you take the variables into play..... you can't have it both ways....

According to you and rman, you didn't ask for opinions and anyone that answered with variables was unsolicited advice.....
Which is it?..... do you want to entertain variables on a long range shot or do you just want someone to spew the ballistic tables that you could have looked up yourself?......... you can't have both and then whine when we speak to variables......
