30-06 maximum moose range

So you were literally looking for responses like,
"400"
"600"
"200"
"1200"

If you don't want to initiate conversation don't start threads lol

Maybe more like:
Nosler recommends a minimum impact speed of 1800fps for the Accubond bullet.
This 180 grain bullet launched from a 30-06 at a muzzle velocity of 2700fps, will hit the 1800fps minimum requirement at around 650 yards.

All googlable..... and doesn't account for the personal experience the op now suddenly appreciates......

I knew people would pick apart the finer details and I know there's lots of factors involved I was just looking for a range the 30-06 is capable of regardless of "sighting in or bullet drop or bullet type or shooters abilities.

Pretty clearly says he's not looking for bullet type or bullet drop....I think I got the answer to the riddle a while back...3 miles!

If everyone actually ran the Googler to find all of their answers, then you wouldn't really need the forum?

There are lots of more relevant questions from people that truly want real life experience and truly wish to know the variables involved with a cartridge....... by your account, and the OP's, neither one of you are interested in said discusssion..... which would lead you to the ballistic tables....... just google them and be done with it.....

Again, Op either cares about real world experience and the effects of environmental conditions, shooter ability etc. or he doesn't.....

You / he can either ask us to answer his question in post two by stating energy and distance, and what is required or we can discuss the variables...... it doesn't go both ways........

Brad, it isn't my discussion. I only assessed as to what the OP was asking, and probably paid more attention to what the question really was, than most did. His interests certainly aren't mine, and as you know I feel fairly strongly that everyone should ultimately be able to do as they like, within societal rules.
He already said that he just wanted to know what the effective range was, and that's it. What more do you want?

Look into the ballistics and trajectories of your bullet and load.
I shoot a 300WM and was always told to sight in 3" high at 100 yards and then I was 3" low at 300 yards and it works great with a 180 grain bullet.
I would think the same can be figured out with the 30 06 with a 165 gr bullet although I would recommend if you are going to stretch it out go with Barnes bullets as they have great accuracy and hit hard close and far. Dropped deer and moose with them and 2 of the moose were within 20 yards and literally took them off their feet...dropped them immediately. I also have no issue trying to send the Barnes bullets out to 500 yards if it is a clear shot and I am stationed where I have my barrel rested. this is with a 300wm however although I would do the same with a 30 06 although I would just sight it in different....about 3.5 ' at 100 yards. JMHO

Fair enough...... then my answer is 200 yards.....

I am a better than average offhand shot and a very experienced long range shot.

I have see a moose shot at 400 yards. 4 shots. 2 hits through the lungs, 2 misses. Moose was walking broadside. Dead in 20 yards.

Assuming a good bullet and scope, I would say the maximum range for a standing offhand shot with a '06 is about 400 yards. The weak link is making good hits - not the bullet.

The MPBR(+/- 3") of a .30-06 with a standard load and 180 grain bullet is about 260 yards. Its got more than enough energy to take down the majority of NA game animals cleanly at sensible ranges. Shooting ability is the limiting factor as with most cartridges.
