30-06 or 270

This should have been a poll. A Lot less reading. Anyway I choose 30/06. 110-240 gr. Easy recoil. Fires that magic 30 cal. There are bullets designed for every thing you need and factory ammo is everywhere for those who don't hand load. A its easier to lie to yourself with logic like if I have the 30/06 I need the 25/06 and 35/06 where as the 270 is kinda a redheaded step child. Good enough to be in the family but doesn't do anything different or better

First of all, it's not calibers, the 270 Winchester and the 30-06 Springfield are cartridges. My vote is for the 30-06. The 270 Winchester among other cartridges have been the bridesmaid to the 30-06.

Cartridges, not calibers... That better ?

The 270, 308, 30-06, and 300WM all do a fine job at what they were pretty much intended to do. If you want to hunt elephants, then no, they ain't the rounds you're looking for. For you're typical North American game, they are just smurfy. I guess it's all personal preference, but I can't see where you gain that much by paying $60 for a box of 20 rounds, as opposed to $25 for the ol' trusty's for hunting purposes. Target shooting, maybe that's a different story....or I guess if you hunt where you'll be shooting past 500 yards

The natural counter to that is with 180 and 130 perfection shooting flatter Why would you choose those old timers?

My .300 loads cost me 7 cents more than my 30-06s. I'm figuring that I get my money's worth and then some.

Perhaps it's because I get tired of having to explain to clerks that I really do want .243 caliber bullets, when I ask them for .243 caliber bullets. Unfortunately they get so used to dealing with people that don't know or don't use proper terminology , that they feel that they need to make sure that I don't really want loaded ammunition to use in a 243 win, or a 243 wssm. I guess that they feel that because some people don't know or use the proper terminology, that they can't trust anyone to know and use the proper terminology.

Speaking of reloading, I'd kinda like to get into that. If I keep buying guns, the wife is gonna kill me lol. I've gotta do something else so I can at least say it's not actually a gun.
