30-06 or 7mm

Whichever rifle feels better to you and handles better. If you're thinking about identical models, then I agree with Stubblejumper: flip a coin, bearing in mind that the .30-06 is the most popular cartridge out there, so ammo, brass etc. will be available everywhere. The 7mm Rem. Mag is slightly less popular.

I'm a 30-06 fan; in fact, so much so that I wonder why the .284 dia even exists. In saying this though; no animal in this world will ever tell the difference in killing power, and no shooter will ever tell the difference in the field of the trajectory of an equally contructed bullet of 175 or 180gr from a 280rem, 30-06, or 7mm rem mag. I think this is the reason why I like the 30-06 so much. The 7mm rem mag also needs a 24" bbl to strut it's stuff, whereas the other 2 do very well with a 22" bbl; something you might want to think about if you hunt in the timber.

The 7mm RM is easily the better choice. The ballistic coefficient of the bullets is better, and it will provide more power at distance. Closer up, it obviously will do the job too.

If you have open sights neither would be better in the bush, and alternatively at 300 yards with a 3-9X scope neither would be that different to say one over the other.

I vote 7 rem. Great bullets with high bc, flatter trajectory and also very common to find ammo and components. I shoot hi bc 160 gr bullets at 3000 fps into .75" groups, pretty tough to beat!

I have both, a remington 760 carbine 30 06 for the bush. The 7m Rem Mag for the longer shots. all depends where you are hunting.
