My 30-06 is a SS 700 in a Brown Precision topped with a 3.5-10. Current load as follows.

Ironically.. I had been giving some thought to running a raw/un-painted stock on my 700 SS Mtn of late. Your photo may just cause me to go that route

Mine was painted but I started to sand it to refinish. Never did get that done after about 10yrs or so.

Tikka T3X SS Superlight 30-06 . I load Barnes 175 LRX over lots of RL17 for 2945 fps ! MOOSE was DRT . RJ

Nice bull and very solid load for a 30-06.


Used a 168tsx and h-4350 on this years moose.

I'm walking factory with 150 grain Federals for Ontario whitetail deer.

I run a Husqvarna 1640 in Thuddy-oh-Six. Only factory ammo so far.

It loves Norma Whitetail and Sako Hammerhead in 150, Federal (yellow box, don't remember the type) in 165 and Sellier&Bellot in 180. The latter will be my elk medicine next week.

I agree- unless you cannot abide a heavy, semi auto milsurp that has to be hand loaded to reliably cycle and you happen to be a single shot shooter like me !

I take the Garand out and sit in the blind but I haven’t shot a deer with it yet. Lately it has been carrying my Contender. Garand isn’t a rifle I carry if I want to walk and hunt.

The classic combo for the 06 is a 165 with 57 grains of IMR 4350, works in every rifle I have ever tried it in, probably close to 20 different rifles by now.

No need to get fancy with the .30/06... the 180 Speer HC (poor man's Partition) over 60.0 grains of Ramshot Hunter or Alliant RL-22 and you are golden for pretty much anything in NA.

If for some reason you need to shoot at distances over 300 yards, switch to 150 grain Nosler Accubonds over 63.0 grains of Hunter.

These loads have been consistent over many rifles.

180 grain in anything,good for moose and deer,I have had great success with Remington core-; loc on moose.

I usually do 150 grain PPU IN MY Garand but I’ll go heavier to 180 grain in my bolt actions

The nice thing about 30-06 is that it’s the swiss army knife of rifles. It will pretty much do everything fairly well.
Excellent hunting round and is capable of decent accuracy to 800-1000 meters.
My hunting rifle is a full dress WW2 Kongsberg Mauser and as long as i do my part it will do its.
Match the bullet weight to the purpose and have at it.

The flat base Interlock is what I use a lot of.

i am currently using the 175 LRX and with 57 gr staball 6.5 3/4 inch groups 2910 fps no downside
