30-06 - What bullet?

surely has to be alot of '06 shooters out here, I got a curiousity based question for you.


What's your preffered bullet(s) for the different game you hunt in your 30-06?

220 gr. Nosler Partitions when I'm out "other than hunting" among the bitey things, and 180 gr. Nosler Partitions for everything else.

Lately I've been experimenting with 200 gr. Nosler Partitions & RL22, and they're showing great promise.

180 gr Hornady spire points.I started using them after the penetration and expansion tests done by Handloader magazine a few years back. They perform very well at impact velocities of around 2800fps down to 1900 fps.
They are accurate and they work vey well.

165 grn Hornady interbond over 57grns of IMR 4350. Shoot's sub 1" moa in my A-Bolt, and the one dear I hit so far didn't walk a step.

Am working on a load for the same weight partitons.

Don't normally hunt with my boring old 30-06 but I've always liked shooting 180 grain bullets in it. Now that I'm hand loading I will be trying some 180gr Interbonds in the near future cause I just bought some dies. And if they shoot well I might just stop the experiment right there

I currently use 180gr Accubonds in my custom stocked rifle which is chambered in the 30-06 Springfield.

Mark; Work up a good load for the 165 Partition, and use it on everything!! When Nosler's 165 Accubond becomes available, switch to it and carry on. I use Vihtavuori N160 with mine, but IMR 4350 works great in most rifles. Regards, Eagleye.

I use 180 Partitions when elk, bear, or moose are on the menu, but if it's only for deer, my .30-06 likes 150 Hornady InterBonds.

I used 165 gr Speer's when I shot the 3006, i just bought another for my son. We are going t Africa next year and I thought the 270 might be a little light. The first thing I will load and checkoput is 168 gr TSX's, probably over H4350.

I shoot 165 gr Speer spire point boat tails. Never had a problem with them on moose or deer!!

My favorite bullet for deer in the 30-06 is still the 180 grain Ballistic Tip.


The 180 Scirocco and 165 Interbond have also performed well for me. Also don't overlook the 165 and 180 grain Hornady BTSP and SP bullets in the '06

For anything bigger than deer the 165 or 180 Nosler Partition is hard to beat.

The 165 grain hornady interlock has given me fantastic results on deer,and the 180 grain NP has worked nicely on moose as well.IMR 4350 for both.
