do not use pointed bullets in tubular magazines the recoil may set off the rounds in the mag.i shot them one at a time loading insertingright into the chamber.

first off i wanna say be gentle as i havent shot this gun for a year and a half... secondly i havent shot an unscoped gun for a year lol.

so anyway that being said, i watched a few youtube vids on pointed bullets for the 30-30 and it got me thinking. so i loaded up only 5 150 gr hornady interlocks over 30.0 gr of imr 3031, the reults were quite good. (i dont have a chrony yet maybe soon) the only thing so i didn't have to seat the bullet so far in i filed off the top of the interbond so it would eject.(looks just like the rem coreloks.

then i decided to load up some 150 gr nosler accubonds also over the same 30 gr of imr 3031, and i will say i found my newest hunting load for the 30-30. you have to seat the bullet little further then normal to get it to eject out of the gun(when unfired).

i also tried to compare the winchester supreme ballistic silver tip 150 gr.(factory ammo)and the winchester power max bonded 150 gr. hollow points as well.(factory ammo)

i will be posting pics up in a few minutes i have to remember my photobucket password lol.:needPics:

Am I going to have to be the first guy to ask the obvious? What does a .30/.30 Win. lever action have to do with precision shooting?

Decent thread, just not in the right section.

the accuracy seems to be more precise and better long range trajectory so i figured this would be an appropriate place for this thread.just my line of thinking.

I do have to agree with the previous poster. I am glad that you are happy with the new loads, but they aren't what most people would consider to represent precision shooting.

I use to load bulk 150gr IVI sabertips(308 win pointed) for my 30 rem..Even though it had tube mag it allowed the use of pointed bullets..That and these bullets didn't broom up in the mag...

Try 34.5gr of Win 748/mag primer/150gr bullet .For better groups from a 94 [I don't know what style of rest you're using so this isn't criticism by any means] rest the bottom of the receiver on the front bag not the fore end.Picked this tip up from an old gun rag and I'll be damned if it didn't work..............Harold........you're fine loading one in the pipe and one in the mag with pointed bullets in a tubular fed gun

I've also read of guys using a 125 boat-tail with great success.
Making a 30-30 into a real 300 yard gun, but just a two-shooter.
There is no reason a lever gun can't be accurate, but it might
take a little more work than a plastic bolt gun :)

yeah i am in the process of trying a 155 gr. matchking. may get around to testing it out this week next weekend for sure. then 145 gr traces when they show up. may not ingnite but you never know. a freind has an ole 94 i may turn into a target style gun lol. single shot heavy bull barrel, in 30-30 just for ####s and giggles. again once funds start growing again lol.

I use 38 grs H335 with a 150 gr Hornady spire point in my M94 .30-30. This is a tremendously powerful load and very flat shooting. From the Lyman # 47 Manual. The MAX is 39 grs H335.

Something soft /light jacketed like Nosler ballistic tips would be a great deer bullet either 150 or 165gr

yeah i will be picking up some ballistic tips and partitions also to try out. my good gunshop is closed for 2 months(holidays)... i may have to break down down and buy from the other at more cost.i was also thinking of trying out some bergers also.ohhh well whatever i have i'll try to look through and make a list of what i'll test. keep posted for more bullet testing soon. (i really can't wait to try out the tracer rounds when they show up)
