I'd like to know which rifle your shooting every 300 wsm I've ever shot has had more recoil then my 300 wm or even my 300 weatherby.

I'd like to know which rifle your shooting every 300 wsm I've ever shot has had more recoil then my 300 wm or even my 300 weatherby.
And this matters why?
Browning A-Bolt. I will admit I have only shot one 300 Win Mag and it was a M70 and it seemed to kick harder than my 300WSM. Although when reviewing published recoil tables every table I have seen has the 300WSM with less recoil than the 300 Win Mag even with a lighter rifle. Here is an example.

Short mag will have more recoil because of the design of the cartrige. You Have all the powder in a shorter caseing going through a bottle neck. Thats were the increased recoil is. Same bullet. The only advantage I see with the short mag is a shorter action. So a little less weight and faster followup. I would be more concerned of the potential short life span of the WSM calibers. They don't seam to be that popular.

It is my understanding that the above statement is not only incorrect, but backwards. All theory and calculations I have read, have said the exact opposite. One of the formulae below shows.

(weight of the bullet X muzzle velocity + 4700 X weight of powder charge)squared

All other things being equal (velocity, bullet weight, and gun weight), the weight of the powder charge is the only thing that is different and the WSM will have a lighter powder charge and calculated free recoil will be lower.
I think that recoil velocity is something much more subjective that shooters perceive differently and the stock design and weight of the rifle come into play.
I bring this up only to to offset the inaccurate comments quoted previously.
In the real world, I doubt that the terminal effect of either cartridge will be much different (unless the 220 grain bullet and the case capacity come into effect).
Just get a 270 WSM and use it for everything!

or even a 7 rem mag would would be a very nice fit.all the mid cal will do the same thing in the real world. a 7x57 will kill as well as a 30-06 (as fas as the game is concerned) I like my 280 but both sons shot 7x57. Find a rifle u like and get it in any mid cal' & injoy. Just my .02$ AJ
You're kidding right? The .300WSM and .270WSM are chambered by almost EVERY firearms manufacturer, with the exception of Marlin and Ruger (who have their own now). They aren't going anywhere...
You will find .300wsm ammo a lot quicker than you will .280 Rem...

I don't own an '06, just a .280, but either would do you well. Just a lot more choice in .30-06 ammo.
