300WSM. Less recoil than the 300 Win Mag with flatter trajectory and harder hitting.
I'd like to know which rifle your shooting every 300 wsm I've ever shot has had more recoil then my 300 wm or even my 300 weatherby.

300 WSM with the same load has more energy than 300 Win Mag

This guy totally has it bang on and couldn't of said it better myself. Their is no thanks button in this forum so I'm saying thanks for the useful post.
Short mag will have more recoil because of the design of the cartrige. You Have all the powder in a shorter caseing going through a bottle neck. Thats were the increased recoil is. Same bullet.
My feeling is that the 280 you seem to be sort of thinking about would balance things out really nicely between the 243 and 338 you already have.

or even a 7 rem mag would would be a very nice fit.I would be more concerned of the potential short life span of the WSM calibers. They don't seam to be that popular.

for conversation, i have twice witnessed 300 WSM 180 grain factory loads chronograph faster than 300 Win Mag 180 grain factory loads.
Go for the .30-06. For a .28 cal I second the vote on the .280 Rem. Both of these are very versatile with handloads and will take any game that most of us plan to hunt.
So another thread has morphed into Short Mags vs the world. How did hunters ever kill game without them!?![]()
