Looking at the bolt recess leaves me wondering if the stock is wood with dreadful paint on it?

No it's synthetic,I Removed the barrel and checked it out,I thought about doing a camo dip but then decided to order a boyds PRAIRIE HUNTER stock in walnut,Once the stock comes in i will drop it off at the Gunsmiths to properly fit/bed and blue the barrel.I think as usual i will end up spending more than necessary but I think it should end up being a nice rifle for another generation. I also removed the Bushnell banner 4 power that was on it so i will have to shop for some decent optics,(You know once the wife's sticker shock wears off)

How does it shoot? You should check out customshopinc.com I believe they have Sako replacement stocks. They are out of the States so I am not sure if they will deal with canadians but its worth a shot.

And anybody else on here who enjoys fine browning and sako guns like myself should check out that site.
