The fact is that both cartridges are capable and the fact that both have been usurped by larger .30 caliber cartridges doesn't change that. You don't see many .300 Weatherby chambered match rifles, but then that's not its forte. Elgin Gates if I recall made a name for himself hunting throughout the world with a .300 Weatherby as his primary thunder stick, and others have followed. The MK-V's at one time had a long lead so that the full potential of the round could be realized, but I understand this is no longer the case. I'm sure the new rifles are now more accurate with a normal lead length. The one thing that stands out for me about the Weatherby styled cartridges are that they are among the very few I have seen fail at the shoulder.
Just like it's parent case- the 378 Weatherby - which has a higher velocity than the 375 RUM, the 30-378 also trumps the 300 RUM in the velocity dept.

No, mine's Japanese, with those ugly engravings on the receiver typical of Jap Mk Vs
30-378 is a bit faster in the lighter bullet weights but once you get up to the 220 grain stuff the 300RUM takes the cake. Read the nosler and hornady loading manuals. Plus throw a sendero 300 rum against a mark V 30-378 in a range shoot out and the sendero simply groups better. although my opinion is slightly biased its just comparing delicious apples to delicious oranges they are both good but people still have a preference.
The 30-378 will provide more velocity with the 220gr bullets than the 300RUM,because the 30-378 simply has more case capacity.I have done load development for both cartridges,and have owned two 300RUMs,and the 30-378 has produced about 100fps more velocity with the same bullet weight in my handloads.I chose the 300RUM for my own rifles,because it works well in the 700 action,and brass is much cheaper.

That just goes to prove you can't always believe what the published load data suggests. For example, Hornady's .375 Ultra data is just out to lunch, which for me brings much of their other data into question. When I am going to try something new, I always check more than one source.
If the larger .30-378 case holds more powder, so it is only reasonable to expect it to produce higher velocities than a smaller cartridge when loaded to equal pressure in a similar rifle. If you are simply arguing that the Sendero is more accurate than a MK-V, I'll accept that to a point, but I've seen a .30-378 MK-V Accumark shoot some quite impressive long range groups, as I have a couple of Senderos.
Loaded to the same pressure with the correct respective powders the 30-378 is faster with any bullet weight than the 300 Ultra.
The idea that either of these offer something more to the hunter than the 300Win/300Wby is beyond me.

I was just about to say the same thing... why is ammo availalbility or its commonality the only thing stopping all these people from enjoying the slick classy BEE?
One shot one kill, when I go hunting with my Bee, I will always have my cartridges...
