300Win Mag V.S 7mm Rem

no it's not

Depends. A hot load in a 7mm with 140gr Accubonds is very flat shooting.
3340fps PBR is 328 yards with a zero of 279 yards
400 yards -9.6"
450 yards -15.7"
500 yards -23.3"

A .300 Win Mag with 180gr Accubonds @ 3100fps gives PBR of 308 yards with zero of 261 yards.
400 yards -12.6"
450 yards -20.0"
500 yards -27.1"

But a 150gr Accubond at 3420fps out of a .300 WM will give you a PBR of 332 with zero of 282
400 yards -9.2"
450 yards -15.3"
500 yards -22.9"

a difference of 0.4" at 500 yards. Seems like an academic difference at best.

Note: these velocities are out of the Nosler manual, so take it with a grain of salt.

to be fair you must compare loads using bullets with similar sectional densities to get an idea downrange

I dont consider two inches at over a quarter mile to be 'flatter shooting', not in the real world. The bigger impact energy of the 300 makes up for the difference.

how many bullest you plan to shoot a year?
if more than 100 , than 308 is a good choice.
if less than 50, anything would do.
Chances for you to miss are likely increased. with a larger calibre.

if you don't shoot a lot use a good rest and lost of sandbags for sighting in.
good padding helps too.

at high velocities the 300 WM needs a premium bullet.
the ammo will cost you a lot more, further messing your practice

I was just seeing how flat you can get. IMHO any of the loads listed is more than adequate for deer, and will do in a pinch if a moose drops by. For really flat shooting check out Lost River Ballistics' J36 bullet. In a 140gr 7mm it has a BC of .644! As a note to the 6.5mm fans, their 120gr has a BC of .687 :!:

Looking for an allarounder?
The 30-06 is king of the do-alls,but if you must pick between the two...
Don't get a .300wm.It will dislocate your shoulder, detatch your retina and give you a shock wave vasectomy. The upside is your moose will gutted and hanging in a tree.
And so continues the legend:)

Funy thing is I have a buddy who truly believes that .300wm stuff. On a serious note,I do believe a 30-06 is the way to go in this instance bit would lean toward the .300wm if forced to choose between a 7 rm and a .300wm just 'cause I like them too.
And as for Death Junky, here is a recipe for a few chuckles

......that was my point. Talk about rehashing the rehashed!! Put the bullet in the vitals and shut the hell up!!! We are starting to look like the idiots on the golf channel and having 50 different shows a week on putting. Just put the godamn ball in the friggen hole and get on with it!!!!:D

....................Oh yeah, 300 Win mag. Because well, er oh yeah it has Win in the title!!! Bwahahahah!!!!!!:D

I think there is a significant difference between 7mm mag and a 300 Win. Lots of 7's can't reproduce manual/factory velocites without getting pressure spikes, lots of guys who think they are shooting 140's at 3300 are really shooting them at 3100, 160's at 3000 really 2800. The 7mm mag is really a 280 with more powder and no real gain. The 300 Win is not loaded hot and isn't prone to the same pressure spikes, 180 gr at 3100 fps hits very hard and is eality attaniable in most rifles.
