308 bolt gun

Don't get the tikka lite. Excellent field rifle but on the bench your Barrel is hot in all of two shots pretty much. If you must get a tikka go for the varmint heavy barrel. Seriously consider the savage though. If you can get a 12 with the target accutrigger you will really enjoy it. Personally I would go with the thumbhole model. After a little getting used to they are so awesome.

I run a Tikka T3 heay barrel in 243. It is a tack driver. Extremely accurate out of the box. You don't have to do a thing.

"...(bench) gun..." You'd best define that. There are Bench Rest rifles and rifles that spend all their time being fired off a rest. Ain't the same thing. Of course, you won't get a factory bench rest rifle. In any case, I'd be thinking Savage(not an Axis or Stevens) just because of the price and out of the box accuracy.
"...I think Tikka guarantees MOA accuracy with any factory ammo...." That'd be impossible.

I like the look of these anybody have experience with em??

Savage keeps popping up :p
I took a look at a 12 with thumbhole.. interesting !!

The Vanguards are a good accurate gun out of the box. Maybe not a competition rifle, but it'll hold it's own against the others mentioned in the thread. The Savage is a good choice too, mine shoots well but I like the feel of the Vanguard stock a lot more.

Just googled this...that is a nice looking package. ..you feel its worth the cost difference?

Enfield303t beat me to it, was just about to suggest the FCP-K. I love mine (though it's in .223). You get a lot of rifle for the price. The Accustock is still a bit flexy however...so if you can get one with a nicer stock it would be worth the money imo.

During some recent testing I had several 5 shot groups under 1" at 100 meters with a stock T3 Varmint Stainless (24") in 308. These were shot from a rest using hand loads made with Berger 175 grain OTM bullets; groups with hunting ammunition were quite a bit bigger. The T3 was straight from the box with a Mark 4 3-10x40 scope mounted using Tikka OptiLock rings and bases

Under the same conditions and with the same ammunition I was shooting slightly smaller groups from a rifle that started out as a Remington SPS Tactical (20") in 308, but this was definitely a project gun with Jewel trigger, AICS stock, bedding, Mark 4 4.5-14x50 scope in Badger tactical rings and base, etc.

So in my experience the Remington is a neat project gun but the T3 was almost as good with no parts replaced or work done, and with less expensive bases and rings.

I haven't tried the same load in my Savage 110FPL but it is the pre-AccuTrigger version so not really comparable to what you would get from Savage today.

Bought my Savage 12 vlp in .308 2 years ago. Bought it after a lot of research. I was looking for out of box accuracy did not want to spend crazy money to get the gun to shoot well. I love my rifle I do most of my shooting at 200 yds. With good ammo (match or my reloads) the gun holds sub .75 MOA as long as I do my part. I bought it from Lebaron's in Mississauga. Currently they have a no tax promotion plus you get 10% off as a member. All in all you can pick it up for around $900 taxes in. I think its the best bang for your buck.

Thank you for the heads up about the promo

Bought my son one, it is amazing and extremely accurate. Will easily shoot sub MOA with good ammo.

I shot a .681 three shot group at 300 yards using a Redfield 3X7 hunting scope.

The McMillan stock makes a huge difference.

Never given browning any thought good or bad...tell me more ?? :)

Browning makes a good gun. My buddy has an X bolt, it's pretty accurate, fit and finish and stock quality are good. Plus it comes with a great recoil pad. Does everything my Vanguard does for only a few hundred bucks more. Not a ton of aftermarket stuff for the Browning either if that's the route you're looking to go.
