308 Hunting Rifle

Well i went and checked out the guns today first off i didn't realize how compact the ruger compact was lol. I'm leaning towards the Sako A7, personally i like the black laminate stocks but the A7 just felt right, very light, its very similar to the Tikka T3 but has just enough extra features that i think its worth the extra cash especially for short action calibers. Thanks for all the advice anyways the A7 wasn't even on my original list lol.

satyr, why don't you look at the Ruger M77 MII .308 stainless/synthetic ... very nice rifle in my opinion ... ;)

Have you ever tried a Tikka? :)

Smoothest bolt I've seen for a rifle under 1000$
Trigger crisp like glass & adjustable (One of the best out of the box)
Full floating barrel and good results on targets

Mine is a Laminate and would not trade for any new rifle under 1000$ (maybe exept for a T3 Wood stock!)

Only cons, if you like the .308 for the short action, T3 are not short actions... only long but I don't mind.

I know it's not a bolt, but this little set up shoots like a raped ape and is the rifle I take when I am hunting my buddies field which I have ranged and have a really steady rest in a ground blind----I can set up my sand bags to shoot off. I get regular 2 inch groups at 200 yards with hand loads----not bad for a rifle I picked up in the EE for less than $300.00 shipped!
Last year 2 does at 230 yards---2 shots, both bang flops---not too shabby for a single shot rifle :p

from your list, i would get the kimber, i think its much more refine than the other 3, nothing wrong with any of the 4 you have narrowed down to.

308

i've got a parker hale safari 308. didn't shoot good untill i had the gun smith remove an inch worth of damaged rifling from the end. it shoots great now. smallest group is .8 inch at 100 yards. i just can't figure out what the previous owner could have done to it. now i've got all the rifle i need. this is my first 308 and my favorite gun.

The fit and finish of the Kimber is Superior to the production guns mentioned the action is scaled to the cartridge very smooth as accurate as all mentioned trigger is very good basically a custom rifle the price is a little more but the quality is worth it .

.308 Win

My first centerfire rifle was a Rem 700 bolt in .308 Win. I still have it. It was a good choice.
