308 or 270 for Moose -- which one?

If these are the two to select from I will pick the .308.

Though I am more comfortable with my long trusted 270, I do feel .308 is a better choice for moose. I have two .308s to choose from.

:D

270 is smaller and ###xier and it will the job perfect...in fact when i butcher my moose after hunting with 270 i am discouraged at meat loss.....but then again i hate the fact that i need to throw any meat away when it is moose......arrows are the best on moose!!!! hehehehehe

But I pick 270..

seems like you have both guns. pick the gun you like the most. have seen moose shot in the right spots with both and they both died equally the same. if it was my choice...i am a sucker for shorter actions = smaller/shorter easier to pack guns but i would pick the gun i like the most. i also like .30 cal. personal preference.

Unless you want to seem like some sort of amateur and a disgrace to all hunters, put away the .308 and .270 and go hunting with a .223 using FMJ's. You may have to use more rounds to put em down, so buy a case.

(j/k)

Either or. I have a .270 that would do the job, but wouldn't hesitate to tote around a .308

If you are hunting in the thick stuff a Savage 99 in .308 would be hard to beat. If you hunt power lines, rivers, lake shores, or in the mountains a .270 would do well, but then so would a bolt action .308 with a 22 inch barrel. As long as an appropriate bullet is chosen, either will put meat in the freezer.

As Axl once said....

I would get my 308 rebarreled and rechambered to 270/308 cuz that would be cooler and cooler kills mooses more betterer.

Yes the .270-08 would have a cool factor. :D

You know what else would be cool? If someone necked down the 30-06 case to a .277 caliber. We could call it the .270-06. Who needs a .270 Win. when you can have the .270-06? ;) :D

All these threads can be answered the same way - "If your rifle is roughly equal to, or better than, a short barreled 30-30 with cheap factory ammo; AND you can hit your animal where it counts, you can hunt anything in North America with it. END OF STATEMENT.

Does that mean that you have put an end to these mindless threads?
