.308 or 30-06

Just got back from the range trying a load that was develop for an other rifle, the new rifle shoots them at 2750ish fps and well inside an inch at 100m.
 
What Rifleman87 said. Bullet weight and short vs long action. Shorter action also gives you more chassis and after market options. If you care about that. For my money....30-30 lever action in Ontario woods is the perfect hunting rifle. But I'm not shooting past 75 yards off hand....
 
I did not read the 20 pages prior and this has probably already been said, but:

308 is very available, affordable and capable
30-06 is more versatile and can be found most anywhere

If you want to shoot farther (especially hunting) the aught six is likely the better choice.

if you like classic styling you can get a pretty nice mauser action rifle in 30-06 pretty cheap these days
if you are just starting out a 308 and spam cam of ammo is a great way to get time on the trigger

So far I reload for: .308/762, 762x39, 5.56, 762x54r, 303Br, 8mm Mauser, 6.5 Swede, 8x56r, 7.5x55, etc. Most, save for the mid-size rounds will reliably drop anything on this continent within reasonable distances given the right range and ammo selection.

I'll await the next 9mm vs .40 cal debate thread... lol

DGY, I'm not dissing your load, but it's pushing the red zone in many 30-06 rifle types.

It's just fine in the Husquvarna action, IMHO. I push my Husquvarnas just as hard. They're built to handle very high pressure cartridges and do it very well

I'm thinking a 30-06, as getting that much IMR4350 into a 308Win case???????
