308 powder

IMR 4895 and H4895. Any decent load with that powder will work fine. There are others too - IMR 4064, RL 15, W748, BLC2. I would start with IMR4895/H4895. H4895 will be more temp stable than the others. They are not interchangeable btw.

I just picked up a 8lb keg of IMR 4895, got lucky I have been looking for it online and locally for a while now with no luck. Stopped in at a little shop and they had one, so I snatched it up. What have you guys been paying for 8lb's of IMR or similar where you live at?

in order of preference, I have used ( 165- 168 gran bullets) Varget, W748, RL15, IMR4064, IMR 3031. Other powders work well too, it is not a fussy cartridge to load for.

Agreed! That's what I like about .308 Win. Assuming good bullets and a good barrel consistent loads of any of the above powders will give good results.

I use several, depending on what bullet weight
Here are a few loads I use in my savage 110S series
J in 308, my gun is twisted 1:12, so it likes bullets of 180gr
And lighter, the lighter work better,

125 gr Sierra pro hunter and 41gr of H322
155 gr lapua scenar 42.5gr of H4895
150gr hornady spire pt , 47gr BL-C2
180gr Sierra pro hunter 42 gr IMR4064
130gr hornady sp, 46gr H335
110gr Sierra varminter HP, 41.5gr of reloder 7

All these loads shoot MOA and less in my rifle
And are all under max loads
If you use spherical powders or "ball powders"
Magnum primers help alot, better ignition
And improves accuracy, also I find if bullets have a canulure
I like to seat bullet to that depth and apply a light crimp with
My lee factory crimp die, it improves accuracy for me, depending
On your rifle , one has to experiment

For medium to light bullets ,4895 either H or IMR works
Gd, for heavy 165- 180 I had gd results with H 380
Using magnum primers,
Best accuracy load was with 4895
Best velocities I got were mainly using spherical or
" ball" powders like , H380, H335, BL-C2, and accuracy
In my rifle improved by crimping lightly if bullets had canulure
Also using CCI250 magnum primers, I've recently started using
H322 powder at 40 gr with a 125-130 gr bullet very accurate
Great deer load , also recoil was mild, would make super target
Or deer load for beginner shooter
If anybody wants to ask questions loading any caliber
Message me anytime! , I'm an avid reloader for rifle/ shotgun

What are you guys using for reloading 308? I haven't reloaded rifle yet just pistol and am not sure what everyone is using. Yes, I did read the reloading manual just looking for powder opinions.

Do lots and lots of reading before you start taking peoples recipes off of here. You could be in for a world of hurt, both equipment and yourself if you screw up bad. If you see a recipe on here, scale it back 10-12% and gradually work up to the perfect recipe for your rifle. What are you shooting anyways?

I have a Rem700AACSD in 308. I've done some load testing with Win748 as well as H4895, but I also have IMR4895 (never mix despite the numbers being the same.....EVER!), Varget, N150, and a fair bit of Win748. On account of garbage weather in the Ottawa Valley I haven't had much time to do the amount of load testing that I want to do since I have gotten into reloading. For now I am sticking with 168gr projectiles to get some solid recipes built and then from there I will play around with projectile weight. This way I have a solid foundation to start from my relying on my 168gr data.

I have 50 rounds made up currently on 2 different load tests, but some tweaking on my Win748. Despite the weather this weekend I will be making up some more. I am between Pet and Ottawa so for now it doesn't make sense to get a membership to a club. There is one not too far from my house that I may bite the bullet and pay the $25.00 non member fee to spend the day testing.

As you build recipes up, grab yourself a binder to keep track of your progress. I'm starting to find it to be very addicting and detail oriented now....it's pretty good for my always busy mind (operational injury from work) and in the long run keeps the money pile at home from getting to little. ;)

Have been experimenting with Accurate 2520 lately for the 308. Looks good indeed!
Which is a two edged sword because it's not easy to find this brand.

2520 is a amazing powder for accuracy and top velocity's but is also the worst powder I have used to spike in hot weather, be VERY VERY careful with it,

I see Budget has both H4895 and IMR4895.

That won't last long. Shipping is really cheap through Henry and prices are ok, they used to be good but have gone up.
