.308 reccomendation

I agree ....... There's lots of cheapo/entry rifles out there that folks buy and restock. Doesn't make sense.

Unless of course they like a platform unavailable in a decent mid-priced option... the same cannot be said of bolt action rifles... any of the "sevens" can be had for a good price on the used market and is a far better way to go... IMO.

Yeah, I joke.
But seriously other than the stigma of anything under $400 being junk, what exactly leads you to believe the X7 is garbage? Have you guys ever handled/shot one?

Don't get me wrong, I ain't saying they're the best. But I can think of worse 308 options.

I really have no idea why peole do this either?

It still is an entry level rifle, the stock does not make it better/less entry level. Certain brands are just known for cheap rifles (entry level) They may still shoot very well but lack in fit, finish, materials used and overal quality. There are rifles well over the $1000 mark that I consider entry level simply because of the build quality, they may shoot very well but tooling marks, sloppy bolts, loose locking mags, etc are all tell tale signs of an entry level build.

You and Super Cub preach it! You two are the perfect, unbeatable tag team... woot, woot!

not sure what you mean, but I am sure that pretty much anyone can agree that swapping rifle stocks does not change the build quality of the rest of the firearm

A rifle is not "the rest of the firearm." The action, bolt, TG, barrel AND stock are integral components of the rifle... "fit and finish" (or "finition" for JP)... are how those components all come together and how smooth the transitions are and how fine the finish is and how precise the interaction is between each component... one of the ways that companies are cheaping out on firearms, is in the stocks they are sold in from the factory... otherwise decent guns being sold in flexy tupperware... this is why there are so many successful aftermarket stock companies... you can in fact significantly improve a rifle by placing and bedding the barrelled action into a better piece of furniture... that's why shooters do it... and because of that demand, there are companies providing stock options.

When you have a cheap rifle like a Savage Axis, and she performed better than anything else,
The owner might be tempted to dress her with something nicer than plastic.
but, some people like plastic.
Different taste.
Its like women...its not always the nicest doing the best job,
might worth spending some $$ to get the best of both world.

I just bought a Ruger American. Awaiting it's arrival. Is that junk too? How does it stack up against a Handi Rifle? :nest:

Don't think I will restock it, but will top it off with a used Weaver Classic 4x and use it for a loaner.
