How long will 5 boxes of good ammo last you? lol.
Quality ammo worth hunting with is pushing 100$ a box after tax and certainly after shipping. Even the “cheaper” stuff is expensive now. Unless you forgot a zero and meant $5000 and that might be a lifetime supply for a hunter.
I had the same idea as you once I found the bullet both me and my gun liked. I bought 10 cases of factory after all the same lot and called it a day. Have been hunting for two years off it so far. 20 to go

That feeling when you realize you burn through a “life supply” in a couple range trips theses days 
I stocked up on PMC FMJ for practice ammo when it was less than $20 a box, glad I did it’s great for that price.
Now I’m looking at reloading cast and / or plated to save some bucks

Keep your eye on the main page. There’s usually deals on there every other week, but you might have to stretch your budget a tad for a deal.
If you are talking hunting a good one shot guy that translates into 500 kills don't laugh i know a few old school gents that hold to that rule and can prove it. If you are range banger that likes to make a lot of noise and not accomplish much 500 wouldn't do you.

The only way you will achieve that is to start buying used reloading equipment and components and reload your own.
Casting and powder coating lead bullets can be a blast in how accurate they can be, out to 1000 yards(336LM).
15 years ago a box of 20 (308 150gr)cost me under $3 to reload with my own cast bullets. Back when powder was $26 a pound.

Buddy if you think going to the range is not accomplishing much then you are not a gunnut.
To funny their are range shooters that work on constructive projects that accomplice something and then there bangers who blow ammo for no good reason except to hear it go bang. I am a member at two gun clubs and have and do shoot bench rest , pistol sports and all shotgun sports. There are shooters and there are bangers. HAVE A GOOD DAY!
If that's your best accuracy hunting round, then why not stock up for that purpose? I don't fire off many rounds hunting, so a few rounds to verify zero and a round or two for hunting is typically good for me. But for shooting at the range, I want the best possible accuracy, so for that reason I reload. So, maybe do both of you like shooting paper too.

I few pieces of info:
1) I shoot 1 deer a year + a few rounds to confirm zero. Im done scope shopping and dont intend to switch much anymore unless I win it big.
2) Our range is only 100y and paper. It's no fun for me to shoot that with centerfire. I shot out to 600 w/ electronic targets one time and that also is not much fun to me (the group size is the same because its measured in mrad!)
3) I shoot ~2000rds of 22lr a year and ~40 centerfire. Every other year or so someone will join in me the woods and we'll try and shoot a 8"+4" steel sq plate hanging off a tree at 200y+
4) Being in NS really dampens the desire to be an active marksman. We get MAYBE one CRPS event a year and nothing else. The closest range to me is 45 minutes away.
