I can't beleive it, all of a sudden the .308 surplus is showing up. Guys are looking for a buck a bullet. I guess when one hoarder notices another hoarder selling it for a buck they might as well jump on the band wagon. To each his own and if you want it go right ahead. Don't get me wrong I'm a hoarder too but all of this is way out of hand. I hate to say it but I am almost fed up with the m-14 and all the jazz around it. It's like a beautiful truck that you can't afford to put gas in. Please do not reply with things like "if you dont like it , don't buy it". I'm not in the mood. I am just venting. Tomorow is a different day, but for today I want to think of a market where .308 surplus costs 50-60 cents a round and I can shoot my M-14 all day long

I think you and I saw the same ridiculous WTS post in the EE recently... I laughed when I saw what that tool was asking for his LOOSE surplus - over a buck a round!

it's almost an unwritten law that when you buy one of these beasts, you automatically get into reloading- and forget about using surplus- it groups lousy anyway- one bandolierful of ivi was enough to convince me of that- buy yourself something like a dillon 550 and spend a few hours - it'll pay for itself in terms of both savings and group development-
That's what I did (well, a Lee not a Dillon... that may change this week), and it's why I laugh at the crappy surplus ammo prices nowadays... unsealed surplus is just ####ty ammo - the only reason I'd buy surplus is if it were still SEALED. And even then, not at a buck a round!

hey, lee, dillon, rcbs, harnady- it's all good and you learn how to make ammo- when i got into this game there was but one progressive that would make 308 , and that was old big blue- same deal as ibm was the only game in town at one time
I wouldn't say it's that bad. I've shot 50+ year old surplus that was never in a sealed package without any issues.
I do agree that $1 a round for 7.62 NATO is a tad steep, though.
Perhaps I should clarify - the 'crap' I meant was the fact that it's not up to handload or even commercial caliber in terms of accuracy, and having it unsealed from milspec packaging negates the benefit (to me) of buying milsurp in the first place if it's not dirt cheap. For me, if I'm going to buy a sealed battle pack, what I'm paying the $.80/round for is going to be the fact that it's in waterproof and airtight packaging so I can set it aside for doomsday and not worry about whether it'll go bang. Otherwise, $.60/round is about the most I'd pay for surplus .308 - hence why I handload to feed my .308 boomsticks. If I'm going to get ammo that isn't in milspec packaging, might as well make my own for cents on the dollar compared to commercial/open milsurp.

I agree with the battle pack. I want one because its just cool and authentic. Just one tho.. On a side note I just sold two hundred rounds of brazil surplus. I asked $160 for it because it came in containers that were bought extra. long story short the guy showed up for it(maybe 20 min drive) and it turns out he was in the army(retired) so right their and then I knocked off $20 dollars. Just thought I would throw that out their. Remember that next time you deal with someone in the Canadian armed forces.
really, last I checked we live in a free society, all this bitshing about what others charge is simply socialistic almost communistic crap. leave the guy alone he can charge whatever he likes period, for now, unless you price police get elected into office.
