Thanks for Joel and RMan keeping things in the ditch, I'm back to help.
Ardent, the point is, was, still is...until the 300 win mag started getting all 21st century with available loads, and always not including reloading in any comparisons, the known standards of the day are what a guy had to compare the 6.5 Creedmoor too to help understand it. And so fud factory ammo to factory ammo, the shat you actually saw in camps when the rifles came out of the leather scabbards with the psp bullets, the 300 win mag typical 150-180's is what you had to compare to with the 6.5 Creedmoor so people could understand what 21st century ballistics looked like, what high bc/sd allows you to do. Everyone knew what a 300 capabilities. Please tell me you see the point? I already agreed the 300 win mag with 21st century loads and hand loading can beat on it....but the 20th century stuff they ran neck and neck all the way out and only the 180 gr had an sd or penetration ability to keep up to the 140's.
To the guy asking if 6.5 or 308 choice as last two rifles for a hunt in Alaska or whatever, I'd ask first what the accuracy is on both and at the exact same time and importance level I'd ask what bullets are they running in both. If adequate on both I'd ask to shoot both, or just ask to shoot the one that I wanted most, confirm it's zero myself and away we go. I'd make my choice from there. After that I'd look over the rifles, shoulder them, see what 'feels' right and giver. If a lot of the ergonomics and setup similar and bullets both appropriate to my standards, chances are the 6.5 will likely have the bullet advantage as 308's have a hard time ballistically to get in the same wheelhouse.....the 6.5 is likely what I'd end up carrying. Assume we will hunt sheep caribou moose? I'm with the other guy on if a grizzly thing neither option lol. I trust ballistics (terminally even more than in-flight) and accuracy implicitly, If all parameters met then the one I'm likely to shoot better and has higher hit probabilities will be the one on my shoulder. No replacement for placement.

The 6.5 RMag is Great & KOOL cartridge BUT THE facts are the 6.5 PRC is a Superior designed cartridge !
#1 the PRC brass length is 2.030 Vs 2.170
#2 the PRC shoulder angle is 30 degree vs 25 degree
#3 the PRC has NO useless belt
#4 the PRC has a couple of grs more powder capacity
Properly loaded the PRC will out do a 6.5 Remmy by a HAIR in Performance (fps) .
