If you compare the .308 and 30-06 at the Remington site, the 150gr Core Lokt Ultra's, yes, you see 200fps and almost 200ftlbs at the muzzle. At 100 yards, it's down to around 100fps and 150ftlbs. The differences close the further out you get. At a 200yd zero, they are almost identical to 300 yards, after which the 30-06 stays a little flatter.
I'm not arguing for or against either, but where is an average hunter going to notice that difference? What elk or moose is going to notice it? Yes, the homeloader has more flexibility, but will that make a decisive decision of one over the other?
IMHO, (and I know I might get some flak for it) these are as identical as you can get. One is just shorter than the other.
