308s, moose, tikkas, and other boring ####

And you're going to assemble your pack gun when it's called on to be what a pack gun needs to be? The bear won't care if it's straight-gripped, Monte Carlo'd 24 LPI or not - he'll cover 100 yards in 4 seconds. How fast can you find, assemble, load and shoot that thing:confused:

wtf??
who said anything about bears.
i want something thats a full-powered centerfire, but that can be taken down and stuffed into a pack. ie: so when im on foot it can be taken down and stashed in my pack if i have to head into a town, hop on a train or bus, etc.

in the bush it would obviously be carried assembled.

for some reason .222 and .243 are the most popular varminting calibers with most of the people i know here in Ontario. either there was some huge marketing push on these guns in the 70s or its just dumb luck :)

having seen both in action countless times, the .243 gives far more... erm.. spectacular kills. stepping down from that to a .222 is going to be a little disappointing for you in terms of impact.

is that an old tow-truck in the background?

Nope, its a landowner supplied DPWTV. (Dirt Pig Whacking Terrain Vehicle):D
As for disappointed,
LOL, far from it;) I've shot a ####load with everything from a 22LR to the 12 guage, and the 222 is exactly what I was looking for. The 243 has a far better "splatter factor" so to speak, but thats not what I got the 222 for. Nice light, and easy on fur for other animals. Its not as light in weight as my 243, but having a bunch of stuff from the 22-250 and up, I dont have anything that bridges the gap from 22LR, up to the 22-250 or 243. And this is something that I have wanted for a while. I've allways wanted a 22 hornet or 223 for varmints and small game. So when this 222 came up, it fit the niche perfectly and sat between the hornet and the 223. I got out an shot it this weekend, and Im real happy. Now for the hogue stock, trigger job and maybe a cut and recrown to 20 inches.
The first two I'll do this week, and the last might take some deciding. :D

Trying to finish off the new stock for my 6BR in time for shooting in before the season begins. Have inset a square front on it and started sanding away. Looking for a good finish for it. The stock itself is really nice birch with a layered effect. Seems a shame to paint it. The rifle gets an aftermarket trigger this year too. I'm tired of using a winch to let off a shot. Went through the annual scope swapping routine with my rifles. Turns out I need at least one more scope. Just have to put a new one on my 340 Wea. Takes a long time to figure stuff like that out!!! How about 2.5-10x40 Elite 4200? Just don't know, yet. Maybe I should try one of those new fangled ballistic drop kinds of doo dads...
