Is the 325wsm gonna make the test of time .Can it replace the 30-06,300 win and 338 win all at one time ...Does recoil really happen in the field shooting at game . Or does blast and recoil get left at the range bench ?
 
I have a beautiful BLR in 325 wsm and saddly ammunition is extremely expensive and difficult to find, I do not reccomend buying this calibre to anyone. Frankly I believe all short mags are slowly going extinct
 
Well, I have one, IMHO I think its a great 'obscure' caliber - can't say whether or not it will be around for the duration, but I don't really care as I reload and brass is readily available - it fills a gap in my arsenal, and as performance goes, its got a lot of whollop - 200grns at 2900fps means business. My rifle is custom with magnum contour, and recoil is very manageable - a range trip and 20-30 rounds is no issue. The Shilen barrel with some load development puts 200 NAB at 1/2 to 3/4 MOA - whats not to like???
I like to shoot as well as hunt, and wouldn't want a 325 in a lightweight rifle, nor would I want any WSM or WM in a light rifle - but in a 9-10lb scoped rifle its not an issue to shoot.
I say Nay to the 325wsm naysayers!!!!
 
I've got a Browning XBolt in 325WSM I think it's a great caliber. A couple of my friends have even gone out and bought them too now. The recoil isn't to bad. I find the 30-06 has more kick. Ammo isn't cheap but if you reload it doesn't matter. The ballistics are great. I put a leupold scope on it and never looked back!
 
I have a BLR takedown in 325 WSM and I like it.

I also have a similar performing 8x68S in my BRNO and like it as well. I can find brass for the 8x68 and expect that I will find it for the wsm as well.
Especially since a lot of the benchrest crowd like the wsm and they buy lots of brass.
 
i have a 325 wsm in xbolt, havent had a chance to shoot it as it has been too cold, but i have shot my friends 325 in the model 70 with 200g speer bullets and it wasnt horrible. i made up some lighter deer loads with 150g hornady sp bullets, i expect the recoil will be comparable to a 30.06 as for brass, it will always be around, the 300wsm is here to stay and you can always resize that to 325wsm
 
I've fired (have not owned) a BLR in 325wsm. To me, it's just not worth it. And I enjoy hunting with oddball calibers. I don't reload so price of ammo is a factor and on paper at least, It's not that different from standard magnum cartridges. So it doesn't really offer me anything different than what was on the market before.

The 270wsm looks pretty cool though and offers something that wasn't really around (other than in Weatherby's) before. So if I had to have a WSM, that's probably the way I'd go.
 
I was actively looking for a Win Ftrwt in 325 WSM and had one in my hands a couple weeks ago or maybe a month, at WSS but it had the plainest chunk of spruce on it I've seen in ages, couldn't force myself to part with the asking price even though I wanted it. I have since bought 2 Husky 98s in 8X57 and will be making one of them into an 8X68 imp 30 deg. I have 200 or so rounds of new RWS brass and there is always lots of 8mm bullets on the shelf when all the other slots are bare. Besides I said I had a hole at 8mm in my collection, and these 2 should fill that niche nicely..........

No. Kinda. Sorta. Partly.

At the end of the day the 8mmWSM is an interesting chambering, but not interesting enough that it will dislodge any of the Old Guard from their posts. Guys that want to shoot an 8mm are usually gun cranks who would rather either shoot a vintage rifle (think crazy_davey) or cobble together something new and quirky (like c-fbmi). The problem with the WSMs is that they don't really do anything new. A new rifle in a difficult to locate chambering that does essentially what some old codger made a rifle do 60-80 years ago just doesn't blow anyone's skirt up. Hell, it'll barely ruffle the crinolines on Gatehouse's tu-tu.

I don't think the 300 or 270wsm is going anywhere but factory 325 and 7wsm will probably die away. Anyone that reloads will have brass weather it needs to be necked up or down.

300WSM brass works fine bumped up a mere .015". So my guess is no worrys at all for brass. I neck it up for my 350WSM just like I do 30-06 brass to make a 35Whelen case.
Anyone that reloads will have brass weather it needs to be necked up or down.

Had a win model 70 extreme all weather in .325. Dumped it. Recoil was sharp ( stock design I think). My win super grade in .338 kicked significantly less. Biggest problem was bullet availability. Not a lot of choices on the shelf when reloading (it took me 6 months to find reloading dies) ammo off the shelf was uber expensive ($75.00++ for 20 rounds or $40.00 for crap I.e. Win power points). My two cents, 338 win is a better calibre, stay away.
 
the 325 is an ok round. for a one gun hunter i think it could easily replace a 30 06 and 338. brass isn't a concern as long as yoy load your own. like the 338 you don't need a lot of bullets. hornady makes a fine 195grn, noz 200 grn ab and partitions pretty much all you need in the 325. i prefer its big brother the 8 mag but i own both.
 
I never thought it would sell, but it seems to have found a niche. I don't expect to ever be really popular, but I think in a way it's liek the 8m RM. Not popular, but never forgotten.

Brass will never run out, the 270/7mm/300 WSMs will take care of that.
 
Why did I buy a 325 WSM? Because they don't make a 338 WSM.

As for brass availability how hard is it to neck up 300WSM ? Not hard at all. 200 TSX at 2800 + fps is a darn good load for anything in NA out to 300 +
yards.
