i bought a "new gun never fired" rifle from a business on the forum here.
had no problem with the dealer, paid and received.

-the hammer got some serious wear mark from the slide (the blue got off).
-the loading door have deep copper mark on it from being loaded with factory ammo.
those mark dont come off even with hopes#9.
-inside of receiver was coated finely with a dry black powder residue.

so, is that Remlin fault or the dealer?
before buying i asked if the rifle was touched/fired/brand new, they told me:
"new gun never fired [...]"
those mark come from loading ammo into it and playing with it quite intensively...

what you guys opinion on this?
i bought a few brand new gun in my life and i had no problem even with the cheapest one, but this one?

yeah it does work,
but i feel as if i bought a used firearm for the price of a new one.
i wanted to know if it was Reminton fault.

I'd call the dealer and see what they have to say about it. When I pat new prices I want new, regardless of weather it functions fine or not. If I bought a new car and when I picked it up there was 3,000 km on the odo I'd be upset as well.

How's the fit and finish? Does it cycle smoothly. If so, consider yourself lucky, and keep it. You could do worse with a Remlin.:)

All factory guns are test fired at the manufacturer before shipping off. That's probably what the marks are from.

I see this posted here often, and I always shake my head. If the rifle functions fine and there is no actual damage to it, then the "fouling" is what is what is going to happen the first time you load and shoot the rifle.

I just bought a new truck. It had 100km on the odometer. Big deal. :)

Most guns if not all are fired from the factory .
Some are fired with three rounds for accuracy others maybe one or two more for QC.(quality control and yes even Remington has QC)
Where are the pictures of your gun if you feel it is a well used one?
Have you called the owner of said shop and voiced your concerns and sent evidence of said usage?
Even the Big $ automakers pull a vehicle off the assembly line and put under a 100 km on it and then inform end use customer of why the mileage is where it is being new. They back it up with warranty .
Complaining here first generally doesnt fair well with the regulars.
Tight Groups,
Rob

That's why I said 3,000km, everyone expects a test fire at the factory but it sounds like more than that. Of course I could be wrong.

I have no problem whatsoever with factory test firing, but I do find it frustrating when a rifle has obviously been test fired and yet does not cycle properly...

Alright, ill doubt i will pay 30-50$ to mail the rifle back, they dont even have another one to replace.
i guess ill just use it as is.

Maybe because there has been so many problems with the Remington made Marlins that the dealer was making sure it would feed by testing it with snap caps. If I was to go and buy a new Marlin Guide I would ask the dealer to do that since they have now got such a terrible reputation for quality!

wont be buying another remington/marlin in a lifetime thats for sure.

its sad to see that a 100$ chinaman rifle is a hundred times better build that modern western 500$+ one.

Take it to the range and try it, you might find that it functions and shoots very well...
I had one new rifle recently that had the bolt face etched from being fired frequently and that concerned me too, but it works and shoots really well. Have faith.... don't give up on it yet...

Hope all works out....as I'm also looking for a 336. Been looking at used, but really want any hunting war wounds on it to be my own and not someone else's. I'm hitting a couple shops this week, although don't think they have any in, as can't seem to find a shop with a c or SS around. I'm supposed to be on a list to be called when a shipment comes in march to one shop, but we'll see when that happens. Good shooting.

I bought a brand new-in-box 336W from a dealer supporting us Nutz. It is a post Remington where the QC is great - no issues. And, no marks whatsoever. perhaps the dealer tested himself, or, if it was a showroom model, had lotsa folks playing with it - maybe even the store took it out to shoot - to make sure everything works. I suggest to talk to your dealer first and ask "what gives?!?".

This!
I know of a gun shop that does this, and then flogs them as new...IMO if it wasn't done by manufacturer, it is no longer new, and should no longer be priced as such...

You still don't know what happened to your rifle. Is it signs that the manufacturer proof tested before shipping? Did the dealer play with it? Still, you won't be buying another Remington or Marlin ever!?!? Makes sense!

poor wood finish/fitting, the blue literally came off the bolt when i wiped it with a cloth.
for the price, wont worth it.

I always ask if they have one new in the box in back..I never take the display model that everyone and their hunting dog has been handling, knocking around and fiddling with..not new in box..no sale for this guy..

What I don't understand is why can't they clean them after "testing" them. I cry if I don't clean my rifle within 3 days of firing. Now these guns could sit for 1-2 years like that in the back of the store. That's what I don't get.
