considering having a 30-06 rebarreled to 338-06 a square. what is the expense about, and who is good at this in Canada?

thanks

Re-bored

Why not have it re-bored and use the existing barrel? Harold

Can you please tell me who would re-bore and the cost? Can it be done to any rifle? I have several barrels for my Sig SHR 970 and am considering whether or not to re-bore a 30-06 to 338-06. This rifle is a unique switch barrel design. Do you know if this can be re-bored like any other rifle?

Thanks

I placed a new PacNor supermatch grade stainless barrel made into a 338-06AI in 2008. Barrel and work was about $600. Corlanes / Rocky Mountain Rifles in Dawson Creek, BC did mine. I was thinking of a re-bore from a new 25-06 factory barrel but chose not to.

As did Mighty Peace, I went to Corlane's and they installed a PacNor SS barrel but in a Sporter #1 profile to keep the weight down. The doner rifle was a newer Model 70 Fwt CRF .30-06. It was about $500 for the barrel job. The barrel flutes, action lug lapping, recessed target crown, trigger job and powder coating was extra. Although it's a light barrel and fluted to boot, this .338-06 put my first handloads into an inch at 100 yards. Damn fine for a new, lightweight barrel and being a .338-06, it's got the Kool factor going for it ;)

Looks to be a dandy!!!;)

Be sure to post the new .338-06 when it's done Mark, along with one of your exceptional, well photographed range reports :) It wouldn't happen to be a Model 700 build by any chance, would it? Also looking foreward to pic's of Mighty Peace and his Sako posing with a huge six point bull elk ;)
