this rifle will be use mostly for long range caribou hunting but will spend its fair time at the range as well i have the perfect spot for my range i will shoot off a hill that points down at a a burn over thats about 25 kms from the nearest road and about 50 kms from the nearest town

SO what do you think

I think it sounds awesome. Do yourself a favor though and go with the 56 mm objective. You'll appreciate the extra light at higher magnification. I have compared both side by side and in my opinion the 56mm wins. Also, you might want to consider the 8-32 NXS. I have a 5.5-22 NXS and now I'm wishing that I had more magnification.

I've heard the Edge is a great Wildcat. I shoot the smaller 338 Gaillard which is based on a 8mm case necked to 338 with an improved shoulder and less case taper. Mine is a 26 inch barrel and loves 250 HPBT Sierra MK. Have yet to try the 300's though. Seems the 338 is gaining popularity among long range shooters. Wasn't much for bigger calibers until I built mine and started playing. Been very impressed with the accuracy, and its no slouch either! Currently getting 3050 FPS with the 250's and very tight groups. I'm sure it will be a great rifle, Enjoy!

Sounds very nice. I understand that the Carlock and the others in the US are all building their Edge's with extended mags though, either Seekins or Wyatt.

I just had Guntech build that very rifle for me!
from what I have seen your build is in good hands.

My only differences were an 8X32 NF, Gaillard barrel, and and the adjustable cheek piece.

I might suggest a best quality mag system that is as long as possible. The quality of the mag system should match the rest of the build.

I would select a 5.5-22X56 if it is your first Nightforce. If you already have one on another rifle I would try the 8X32X56....Nice to have for the real long stuff and 100yd bench....Not so much for hunting.
I can see no reason to select a 50mm on a civilian rifle....You can tailor your cheekweld with an adjustable cheek piece....Something to consider if you go 56mm.

You might also think about a Jewel trigger, an ACI cosine indicator, the US Optics rail mounted level (very cool), and a muzzle brake.

Your going to love it!

why did you go with the edge? personally i would have went for the standard 338 lapua because brass is available anywhere and your not messing around with forming brass. and im not 100% sure but isnt remington brass the only brass available for that caliber or is there other ppl making it. and are there any benefits to the 338 edge over the 338lapua

I would bet it has more to do with the action he had/could get, but I tend to agree with you in the brass department. I don't build anything for which I cannot use Lapua brass.

There are a number of factors for going 338 Edge over standard Lapua and mostly because of the bolt face, I'd think. If you already have brass, it's one less thing you have to invest in and when Lapua brass is $335/100pcs it gets costly. The dies are pretty much the same price but also if you did have a Lapua bolt face, you'd definitely have to go AI over standard because the standard Lapua just doesn't do the 300gr bullets justice in comparison to the AI'd 338 Lapua. Since you're dealing with Alberta Tactical Rifle, you'll also have the choice of going 338 Edge AI which doens't change the casing capacity much but it does extend you brass life while cutting down on casing prep. The sharper shoulder doesn't take an extra step to fire form so while you'll doing load developement, your casings will just come out with a sharper shoulder. Dies are slightly more expensive but when it comes to reloading, not having to trim brass is worth it's weight in gold.

Definitely go 56mm because of the adjustable cheekrest and personally I'd stick with the 5.5-22x56 NPR-1 reticle. When we start making rails, we'll be offering 30MOA rails also but until then your choice between 20s and 40s coupled with an 8-32 will either put you aprox 12MOA off bottom of your turret or shooting high out past 500yds with the turret totally bottomed out.

I'd also consider getting a bolt knob installed also just because this casing has a lot of surface area and it's nice to reload with something in your hands as oppose to a marble sized bolt knob.
