.338 Federal...what do you think?

Don't be confused with 338WMin Mag we are talking about 338 Federal which is a completely differant cartridge developed by Federal and Sako! This cartridge is carried by all Canadian tire stores

They carry .338 win mag in the Federal brand, like I said before.

Yeah, I read what you wrote before....but apparently hunt365 would beg to differ...did you read his response to you?

He said:
You can buy 338 federal ammo at Canadian Tire

Then you said:

Should actually be .338 WM in the Federal brand, not .338 Federal rounds.

Then he responded:

Sounds to me like he may know something you don't.....in fact, your bringing the winmag into the discussion is what is causing the confusion :)

So 365, what loads/what kind of $?

I think he's confused. I've been in over a dozen CT's with ammo and none of them have carried .338 Federal, however they have all had .338 win mag. CT only carries popular/mainstream calibers, so carrying .338 Federal wouldn't make sense.

The 338 Fed and the 160 gr Tipped TSX are a wicked combo, IMHO.

^^^You mean the 180's?

new for 2010 we'll see a 185gr TTSX, the ultimate 338F bullet IMO

Ive shot 160gr TTSX in my Sako 338f I had, 2970 fps and most groups ran in the .6" for 3 shots. Deadly I am sure, but a bit more weight doesn't hurt, when you're after elk and moose. 210gr TSX are great too, but I don't think the 185 will give up much in the way of penetration to the 210, and will fly a little flatter which is nice.

185gr @ 2750fps will get a guy to 350 yards no problem (15" drop from 200y zero, 2050 fps, 1700 ft lbs energy)

for comparison, a 200gr tsx @ 2600 fps out of a 358 Win will drop 20", hit with 1650 fps, 1200 ft lbs energy - at 350 yards

bahahahhaa:p

Nothing wrong with a 338 Fed, I just have never had a use for anything .338 find myself jumping from .308" - .375"...

Hey . How much ch$ng are those 160 tsx's worth by the box?
I will be starting to load for mine soon as I get dies, how did you get to 2970fps? can you send me your load data? It would be much appreciated , spending close to $75 for a box of 185 Barnes factory loads does not promote a lot of practice shooting.

51 grs Benchmark, OAL was 2.93" which helped get a bit more powder in there. I think the 160gr TTSX are running around $60 per 50

right now only Federal loads TTSX ammo, and thats only in 270 Win/270 WSM/7mm RM/300 WSM/300 Win Mag in real light bullet weights (110gr & 130gr). They are marketing it as their hyper velocity premium ammo (3400-3500 fps)

Id assume they will begin loading normal weight bullets in a variety of cartridges from 243 to 338 Mag, but we wont find out until later in the year or early next year.

What kind of ammo are you looking for? Ive seen Fusion 200gr for about $40 a box
