I'm not normally one to question you, but looking closely on the pixels on that pic, I'd say that you miscalled a nasty 5kph tailwind... sped that bullet up to near escape velocity causing that nasty looking group. Time to do some work to the gun I think.
Needs more practice lol! Shoots more rounds in a day than most shoot in a year! "TheMOA" range is coming! Starting at 500m out to 1200m slightly sub MOA AR500 targets going to be challenging especially with 40 plus kph gusts like last time out 300 gr Scenars were helping big time also Swissinn spotting might of helped maybe

It is not up to anyone here to tell others what they should or should not do. If one guy practices, puts the time in and believes he can do it, then more power to him.

With regards to hunting with the 338 LM. The cartridge is not the limiting factor...the shooter is. A well placed shot in the vitals and pretty much anything is going down at up to a km. But that is an MOA target at best. Cold bore. If you miss you are advised not to tell anyone about it and proceed with a very quick follow up shot. Good luck!
What sort of energy, in your mind, does a bullet have to be carrying to be considered 'effective'?
If you launch a 300 gr Sierra MK from a Lapua at 2600, you will still have 1000 ft lbs (roughly) at 1500 yds. You might practice til the cows come home, and 1500 is a routine shot for you on a static target, but consider flight time. That bullet will be in the air for about 2 seconds. All it takes is for the animal to take one step during the bullet's flight and you have a gut shot critter on your hands, at a distance where a quick follow up shot on a moving target is next to impossible.
