I have a Sako TRG-S in 338 Lapua with Optolock rings and bases, Karsten cheek piece and a custom muzzle brake. It's topped off with a Sightron 8-32x56 SIII. It comfortably shoots sub half moa out to 800 yards which is a far as I have been able to set up as yet. I love the rifle but am not impressed with the stock so I have been researching replacement stocks.

The only options I can find are McMillan (A5) and Manners (MC4a) because they are the only people that can supply the bottom metal which is part of the factory stock. Both stocks, in the configuration I want will cost $1000 'ish when the dust settles.

My dilemma is, do I get the stock or do I sell the Sako, add the $1000 and buy a new Savage 110BA? I have shot the Savage and was favorably impressed but, I also like the Sako and cannot afford both.

If you guys want to pitch in with suggestions and opinions it might help me decide.

Incidentally, I figure the Sako with brake, cheek piece, mounts and rings is worth around $1300; Is that a reasonable expectation?

Other than a short barrel which won't last long anyways, Remington 700MLRs seem to be good. Easy to accessorize at least and reasonably accurate with the factory tube.
$1450 retail locally here.

Montana Rifles has bottom metal for that rifle as well, I bought a set sometime back for my TRG-S (same caliber). As a matter of fact, McMillan was actually buying from them for their sporter stocks for this rifle. I haven't used mine yet, as I'm not sure whether or not I will keep the rifle. - dan

If I were you, I'd sell your current rifle and use the procedes towards the purchase of a TRG-42. Otherwise, you're trying to re-invent the wheel.

I agree here. TRG 42 is an excellent rifle, with all the features one would look for in a tactical Sniper rifle. Remingtons are nice, but it takes a lot of $$ to get them up to spec for consistent long range shooting. SAKO's have this all figured out for you already.

Get the stock. The Sako TRG-S is a fine rifle and if it is accurate, why take a chance on something that may not be? Perhaps speak with Roberston Composites. I am always surprised by what they make - but don't advertise.

Just understand you will not be adding substantially to the value by adding a new stock. Do it if you plan to keep it and FWIW, I would keep it.

I agree, this is the way I have decided to go. The rifle shoots really well, the custom brake is effective making it comfortable and I do like the action. The amount I shoot will see the need for a new barrel in a couple of years when I can address the one thing that I don't like which is the 26" factory barrel that will be replaced with a 28" in a slightly heavier contour.:sniper:

I looked at Ian Robertson stocks as well as Tom Manners and McMillan. I settled on an A5 McMillan from Joe at RPI. He has the stock, bottom metal and inlet capability. The stock will be unpainted which I like as I can finish to suit myself. I will also be able to do my own bedding, fit the swivel sockets and the recoil pad of my choice. The cost saving is significant as I don't have to pay for processes that I am capable of and enjoy doing.:p

Check out Serengetti Gun Works. When I was in the same boat as you I ordered the bottom metal for my M995 from them. Don't remember what it cost but worked well.

Sako do offer the TRG 42 replacement stock for your M995, you just got to know who to ask, here are a M995 in 30-06 with Sako TRG 42 replacement stock. hope it help.
