My favorite deer rifle for bush type of hunting using 35 Whelen/250 gr bullets. All shots less than 50 yd.

For moose hunting, I use a T/C Encore Pro Hunter in 300 WM/28" barrel but intend to move up to 375 H&H this fall. I can expect shots as far as 500 yd with very little opportunity to get closer.

Customized Remington 700 SPS rebored from 30-06 to 35 Whelen with barrel cut down to 20" with a detachable magazine and topped with a Bushnell Holosight. Gun as seen is just over 6 1/2 lb.

My contribution is a WW.Greener on a Mauser action chambered in 9x57 Mauser. Its a new addition that arrived to late for deer season so it will have to wait untill the 2010 season opens. It seems to like 225grn gamekings the best but won't make the speed of a whelen.

I have a BLR in 358 which I shot a mulie doe with a few years ago, and this past year I picked up a CDL in 35 whelen. I packed it but never got an animal with it.

What's a 350 WSM? ...Anything you know would be appreciated.

Also called 35 Sambar and it's strictly a "roll your own" cartridge.
Basic details are as Dan has described above - 300WSM (or 325WSM) simply necked up for .358 bullets.

Thanks! Got it! Also Cartridges of the World, p. 200, lists 5 more loads for bullets from 200-250 grains. No load data there though on the 286 Hornady or 310 Woodleighs that you list. And I think these awesome heavier ones would have to take a different rate of twist in rifling than my Whelen that allows accurate loading down to the lighter jacketed pistol bullets. Ever tried any of them in the 350 WSM? So far I haven't found just one 35 that can be accurate at both light and heavy ends of the scale. That's why I've stepped up to 9.3mm for the heavies.

I'm looking for my first 35 cal and what I've posted I'm looking for is a 358 Norma Magnum in a Schultz & Larsen. In preparation for that eventual day, I have seven boxes of Norma factory ammo and a set of RCBS dies. My plan is to use it for a Moose rifle.
