35% price increases at Boyd's, effective today. UPDATED

I can't abide by synthetic stocks, and I am far from well off. The cheaper used guns always seems to be synthetic, and some of the interesting stuff comes with beat up wood and a barrel fired a couple of times a year, on occasion. Now these guns become more expensive or stay ugly I guess.
 
I just ordered one through Jerry, was very easy, and very reasonably priced.

My vote is that the Boyd's stocks where an insanely good deal up til now, and now they're just a ludicrously good deal, rather than insane..... we were spoiled by a company likely not charging enough in the first place.

Considering the alternatives, they are still a good deal. Add ons may not be too reasonably priced and the shipping has been a rip off for a long time.inspite of all this, the closest thing in price to the Boyd's doesn't even compare. Seriously, how cocky do you have to be to raise your prices that much in one shot?

ESSO, CHEVRON, PETRO CAN, SHELL... in the OK valley, reg gas is 1.19 to 1.21 per liter. I have seen that out east, prices are ALOT lower.... as in the Lower Mainland.

Didn't someone say the price of OIL has fallen off the edge of a cliff?

Just looked again - the Boyd's HERITAGE and PLATINUM Tikka stocks are still $92 and $97. Maybe it's old stock, but some others like Wby also still under $100. Maybe $129 is the new stuff.

Also remember that one of the largest laminate factories in the world burnt to the ground a year ago - Rutland Ply in Rutland, Vermont.... And Boyd's used their laminate wood....

A few months ago, a lady a Boyd's told me that they were forced to switch suppliers of laminate. She said: "It costs us quite a bit more but we've noticed that the quality is much better".

Obviously, that cost increase in materials is now being passed on the end users. That's life for ya...

I have two "Black Pepper" stocks from old and new laminate suppliers and I would have to agree that the new is much better.
 
The tikkas that are listed at 99 now charge 15 dollars for wood options that were "free" previously.

Those who don't care should buy stocks for the rest of us if they are so cheap...

it is not only shipping, customs charges are included. Boyd's are still a good deal for a laminate stock. GRS, however, are over 700 now. Albeit with more adjustable features that I would like to see Boyd's offer, but out of my price range for now.
 
For many, buying any aftermarket stock is based on: how crappy their factory stock is (tupperware?) , the price (Bell and Carlson?) and the available funds (wife?).
I just happened to buy a used rifle, that was already wearing a Boyd's Classic laminate stock. When you actually have one of these babies in your hands, that's when you appreciate it's value. Value and price are not the same thing. If I were to buy a new Weatherby Vanguard S2, from crappy tire, for $600, I know that a laminate Boyd's stock, for $200ish, would turn into one heck of a fine rifle.

Now $250-ish Canadian, for the basic model, no customization.

A Bell and Carlson from Prophet River is $359.

Not the no brainer choice it used to be.

Putting on a boyds stock is optional (unless you've somehow broken your factory stock and can't get a cheap replacement). If you don't want to spend cash on it, don't. Businesses have every right to charge as they see fit for their products. I'd love a corvette, but I'm not able to pay for one. This is a "me problem." The fact that the used to cost under 4k long ago really doenst matter. This is inflation, prices go up. Especially on non-essential accessories for products that themselves are non essential. Another comparison "its unfare the increased the price of games for my XBox One." Completely not a necessary product. If you cant afford it, simply don't buy.

Sure it takes some stones to increase your price by 35%, but that is entirely their right to do that. Our right as consumers is to not purchase their product if we disagree with the pricing. Time will tell if this has any significant impact on them, but I suspect it won't since they are still one of the best priced laminate options.

TL:DR If you can't run with the big dogs, you'd better stay on the porch.

See, I don't mind this. I'll pay a little more for a superior product any day.

It's just not as easy to justify as it was before.

I didn't know that B&C stocks came that cheap. Maybe they have several grades / options.

However, you failed to include shipping and tax, to bring the B&C into the same pricing mode, as the Boyd's.

Paying an extra $150 for the B&C makes good sense for those crawling around the ricks, chasing goats and sheep, As well as for those, whom prefer a composite stock, over the crappy tupperware that comes on a lot of rifles, these days.

My Boyd's is a "basic" Classic model; Laminated, finished, recoil pad. Cheap and easy epoxy bedding keeps everything as snug as a bug in a rug ;)

Well I have to take some of that back.... Got the stock I ordered today finally, unfinished slimline M14 stock that was on sale for $51....they paid shipping which was $34.
I don't understand why they cancelled my $300 order instead of just making the stocks....they are all made to order anyway. Yet they come through on a $17 sale.... lol
