Just looking for some imput. I have been searching for speer 220 grain flats points but cant find any anywhere. I can get woodleigh 225 grain RN. Would this be a decent substitute? I believe i can load these to about 2100fps.

I would ask Woodleigh, but I believe that the ogive is a bit long to seat the bullet deep enough to function in a lever rifle like the Marlin. If you have a bolt gun, you would be OK, but IMO that bullet may be constructed a bit too heavy duty for the 35. I have some 225 WL, and wanted them for my 350 RM, but seating is an issue. I found some 220 Speers for my 35 Rem, never even considered using the 225's in it.

I just checked, the 225 WL seats at 2.600 min, too long for a Marlin.

I also have had problems finding bullets, so I bought a mold and will be shooting cast shortly. LEE now sells a GC bullet mold, looks like the cats butt for the 35 Rem. i went with the RCBS mold.

PM me, I'd be happy to share info.

Would 220 be an advantage over 200 grains in anything except maybe a bolt action?
2100 fps is pushing the 200 grain a fair bit. The 35 Remington was designed for a 200 grain bullet at about 2,000 fps, but you won't see that much velocity in any modern loading manual. OK, those figures will appear in the loading manuals, but try the load with a chronograph!

give me a bit, waiting for a barrel, I have swage dies for 38 pistol bullets and I am going to punch out some 200-225 grain hard lead bullets with a hollow base and a round nose for the 1100 FPS range, see if I can get there, as far as bullet weights pushing anything heavier then 200 grain bullets is a losing cause, the heavier bullets work better in a whelan or 358 win. I used to load 158 grain pistol bullets backwards in the case for up close and fun rounds, some would function in a lever gun, other wouldn't.

I have loaded the 200 and 180. I have a chrony my 180s hit 2240 and the 200 hit 2180. I was just looking for a little heavier bullet for more penetration under 100 yards. Bullet Barn carries a 205 gr gas check cast maybe that would be a better option.

I've been using these bullets from Jethunter in my 21" barreled T/C Contender carbine in 35 Rem I was surprised how accurately they shoot haven't shot anything other than targets yet but they have a nice wide flat meplat.

I also load 200gr FTX and just bought off the EE a box of Hornady 180gr single shot spitzers.

I ordered 5 boxes of Speers 220gr'ers from nine35.ca, he is in Caladonia Ontario. Was probably a year or so ago but he was able to get them from his distributor within 3 weeks.

I just had my 35rem. XLR barrel shortened to 21". The original 24" was ridiculously long! The 35 Remington is a fun, potent little cartridge in a lever gun!

The 200 grain bullets are more than adequate for penetration. I have had the sierra, Hornady, Speer, and my 195grain Ranch Dog flat points pass through large game animals like Black bears, and moose. An extra 20 grains doesn't get you anything realistically noticeable. The loss of velocity just reduces the bullets capacity to upset/mushroom.

In the end, they all will work. Shoot what you want. but one bullet weight 20 grains more or less wont change anything other than satisfy a persons personal preferences. At least within the ranges this cartridge is designed for.
