Nice find, you should be very happy with it. My 7600 .35 whelen is a staple in my safe for sure. I have not had a problem finding ammo at all. I do not reload either but I do know that .35 whelen can be made with 30.06 brass. I much prefer Hornady to the Remington ammunition. Hornady 200 gr ammo is about $32 a box. Mine packs a punch but it's very managable and is nice to shoot.

I much prefer the Federal Premium 225gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claws as far as Factory Ammo goes...:)

That was actually my first choice when I first got mine but I couldn't find it anywhere. I shoot Federal in most other calibers and have always had good luck with it. My local dealer said he would order it for me but they never did so I just bought the Hornady and I guess I forgot all about the Federals.

I've had my 7600 in .35 Whelen since the late 80s, it was one of the first made.

The good news is its an impressive modest range thumper. The bad news is that's about all it is. Mine seldom leaves the house any more, since for every use I can think of I have a rifle I like better. There's better compromises too.

Besides, the "poormans .375" doesn't measure up to the real .375.Its not even legal for some of what the .375 excells at. The need for a heavy bullet cartridge that fit in affordable bolt actions was solved by affordable magnum length actions long before my father was born.

See, that's what you get for having a Whelen. If you had a 9.3x62 you'd take it with you all the time, like I do.

The Whelen is just fine, just hasn't got the "cool" that some calibers have. 7x57 = cool (7mm-08=yawn), 9.3x62=cool (35 Whelen=yawn), 300 H&H=cool (300 Win Mag=yawn).
