350 magnum remington guidegun-or 450 marlin ?

450

I have the stainless /laminate blr in 450 marlin I had a limb saver & merc. reducer installed ,good now from bench.Just started new loads using 300-350 barnes x groups .75-2.5'' 1780--2125 fps.I've also shot 450 tsx but loose too much velocity.I also have a browning 71 in 450 alaskan haven't shot it much but recoil is harsh.working on a load for 300 partion & 400 speer.any bigger I shoot my 50alaskan in browning 78 actuly chronyed that last week with middle of the road loads & 550grain spitzers bought from bullet smith getting 2'' groups at 100 yards & 1800fps! I was quite impressed & recoil was like a 12 gauge.quite happy with the lot,I think that 450 marlin should be a good moose gun out to 200 yards I have a 2.5-8x36 leupold with that new boone & crocket reticle providing I figure it out.I figure with the 450 marlin If I can get 2000-2150 with a 300-350 barnes poited bullet should be just the ticket. robin

been fooling around with my 673 remington. actually, once you practice with its not that bad for binding. wonderful balance too! i rather like it! i've been told the ruger has a 1:12 twist while the remmy has 1:16. so if you are shooting heavy bullets apparently the ruger is better. i've been thinking i might try to cook up some loads to approximate the old .350 rigby, 225 grainers.

that ruger stainless sounds interesting-anybody have one?opinions, etc?

didn't like it personally, i would rather have the wood stock. the stainless model just felt 'light'. if you have the option, you should try to handle both the remmy and ruger and go from there. one thing i like about the remington is it comes with open sights and has a semi-decent recoil pad. its a little heftier than the ruger and points very nicely.

I have both of these critters and the 350 Rem Mag is much more versatile. I have been using my Rem 660 for nearly 20 years and with 225 grain Nosler partitions at 2600ft/sec it is a damn good all around carbine for game in NA.
I view it as a supersized 308 Win which is another favourite round.

My 450 is in a ported guide gun and powers 350 Interlocks out at 2000ft/sec.
MOA accurate and handy it is a 200 yard powerhouse that has a lot of charisma. Certainly not as much use north of the tree line as the 350.

They both kill stuff dead.

Guide rifle

To answer your question, I'll go for the 673 Guide Rifle over the Marlins.
I had 3 45-70 in the past and all where great guns in a great caliber, but I now own a Remington 673 and I love it! I just came back from the range and this rifle can shoot! At 50 meters from the bench, one hole group is the norm, may the barrel be cold or hot, at 100 M I got 1.5"-2" with a 2-7X scope. No that bad for factory ammo. For the hunting conditions that prevail here I can't think about a better and more versatile caliber. As for the Model 673 some people puke (;) ) when they see it but more find it cool. Me I love the look and the handling caracteristics of this model.

Top rifle is mine 26' barrel 450 marlin.Work in progress,at the minute I have no idea what it is capable of.So I choose the 450 because I have one.
