Anything one can do in a Whelen can be done in a .350 and likewise.
I found that 2800fps with a 225 isn't much of a trick with the .350 either, but 2500 was the ceiling again for the .358.

Thanks for the reply. The earlier 450 fps just had me thinking pretty hard, as my 200 gr loads are right at 2760 from a 22" barrel. Ball C2 and 2015 are magic in the 358 Win.

Your loads are still 200 fps above that, and that is certainly significant. I am well-impressed. What powders are you using?

Okay I can't resist any longer..............













Here's some photos of my 2 350s, the KS has killed dozens of black bears, and I haven't shot the 7 MS yet, I just like to hold it and fondle it so far.
My load in my 7 KS gets me a little over 2900 with 225 ABs with the plastic tip carefully clipped flush at the jacket and loaded to max magazine length.
 
This may sound sacrilegious, but I often shoot 200 grain bullets with Trail Boss from the 673. I load Trail Boss in most of my rifles for plinking and putting in some serious time on a particular rifle before sighting in the hunting loads. Mind you, after firing several hundred rounds of reduced charges that full hunting load does get one's attention. The 225 TSX chrony at around 2,700 fps with my hunting load.

I don't if you re talented for the photos or not but this is one of the nicest ms for a rem 7 that I ve seen and we had a bunch for a while ...

the only problem is the handle: wrong side.
 
It's an interesting cartridge for sure. I only need a .35 cal of some sort to complete my hunting rifle collection and I've been toying with the idea of either a .35 Whelen, .350 Magnum, or .358Win. I like the short action idea but really would like a bit more oomph than the .358 so the .350 might be the answer there. The Whelen appeals to me because I can build my own on a standard M98 action.

Great thread to read everyone's opinion on these cartridges.

Awwww. That's sweet of you man. Thinkin' about lil' ol' me like that. :redface: I think I'm going to make one of those pics the background on my computer so I can look at that pretty gun more often. :D
 
It would show up much better against the hide of about a 22" bloodied black bear with a nice low mounted Leup or Zeiss on it for a screen saver DG. I'll see what I can do about getting you just such a photo around mid to late May. Might even look good against a grizzly hide as long as it isn't too blonde...........You might have to crop me out of the photo though.....
 
Am new to CGN... I've been using a .350 RemMag in a 700 Classic for most of my hunting and since the late 80's... absolutely great cartridge! Have knocked over moose from as close as 40 yrds and out as far as 400 yrds, all with 225 gr nosler partitions. Keep it in it's limits as a mid range magnum and I agree no other caliber is needed for North American game. Mine recentlyy got a facelift with a coat of cerokote, bedded macmillan stock and has always sported a Luepold 2.5X8 for optics. Keeps any ammo I feed it at 1.25" or better with the best being Rem factory 200 gr corelokts which on a good day will put three touching at 100 yrds. Some day I'll get around to loading pistol bullets to try it on gophers coyotes and other such critters. Only cause unlike other centerfire cartridges, it's an option!

I sold my M700 .350 RM, in favour of my .358 Win's and .35 Whelen's... my best numbers were 150 fps shy of rem338win and c-fbmi's quoted results... and for the few extra fps, I preferred the Whelen when I needed oomph and the Win when I didn't... but to be honest my 9.3X74R's are kinda making my Whelen's redundant with my set... when I need more than the .358 Win, I have been reaching for the 9.3's... time to clear some more room?

To go to the next level in .358, ever consider the .358 Norma Magnum?
 
Expensive... what part the reno or reloading? What part of guns and ammo doesn't cost $$$? Came across the stock for 200 so that's the only investment. As for the loads, it's no fun if you don't shoot them!
