.357 magnum 1911 Anyone????

One less caliber to reload makes sense. Ironically I wanted a S&W 625 to avoid reloading 357Mag (Reloading 9mm, 357, 44, 45 and 50 is getting a bit much and that's just handguns.).

Thanks for the "Because we can" answer, is there another reason for a 357Mag 1911

I have a couple of reasons for you Burnaby:
1) I like 1911s. ( I own an STI Spartan in 9mm and have a 22LR slide/kit for it - and am very happy with my gear but... )
2) I think I'd prefer the 357mag round to the 9mm. When deciding on a caliber for a handgun I had read a lot of favorable things about 357Mag as a good choice for low light situations (reasonably low muzzle flash compared to larger calibers), decent enough stopping power, yet still manageable recoil - allowing for quicker follow up shots (statistically a single shot from even a 45ACP or 44mag often still doesn't stop home invasion goblins on the first shot (undoubtedly due to poor shot placement under high stress situations) etc etc. But at the time I couldn't find a 1911 which took 357mag so I stepped down to a 9mm...
Does my answer sound better than a "because you can" Burnaby? ;)
Cheers, T

^ Yup, 357 sure kicks a lot harder than 9mm, but then comparing a revolver to a semi pistol isn't accurate.

More interested in having same caliber in pistol or revolver. Still looking for a 625 to shoot 45, already have revolver in 357, 44, 50 for true comparison.

Wonder if TeeJay ever got his??? Neat to compare 357 Mag vs. 45ACP in a 1911.

As for stopping the home invasion goblin shot placement is everything. I like my 44 mag revolver; seriously doubt anything that can walk through my front door would stand up to a well placed shot.

edit - nevermind, priced outside of my "this could be fun" acceptable range.

Nope, haven't gotten mine, yet. I don't think they're due until August sometime.

Wow. I missed this thread. I talked to Craig W. about this right after SHOT. I want one for sure. I'll be sure to drop a line to you Gary.

Ha, wow don't know how I missed this thread! I had the chance to shoot a Coonan .357 at one of those Las Vegas gun ranges a few years ago, and boy was it fun!

Big THUD
Big fireballs
:D

The range was empty so the employee I was with even switched off the lights for a minute so I could light the place up for a few squeezes of the trigger. Man, those are good memories... wish I took some video of that...

But yeah Gary is right, other than the deeper frame for the longer cartridges, it otherwise feels like any other 1911. (Until you pull the trigger!) I have relatively small hands and take a small-medium size glove, yet I don't remember having any issue with the grip.
For a beat-on rental gun it was fairly reliable. Didn't have any issues cycling (like stovepiping, feed failure, DOUBLE feed, or other crazy things rental guns do) although it failed to fully go into battery a few times (box of 50). No big deal, a quick slap on the rear of the slide got it running again, but again I am willing to bet that was a just a maintenance issue.

If only I had the cash....

CHIT!!! where! how! DAM!
yea 1.5k if I can shoot a 125g xtp stuffed full of blue dot out of it I am all over it.
So I guess these are all spoken for? Gone?
CRAP!

I took a look here

And the thumb safety is listed as an interchangeable part.

I just got my name down for one of these, for anyone wondering you can email the sales mailbox to setup a pre-order. One quick note for anyone waiting to see these 'In Stock' ; when I pre-ordered there were less then a handful not yet spoken for so it's likely every one will be pre-ordered.
