358 blr

They are,I've known a few guys that have used them and they were quite happy with them.Handy in thick cover and lots of poke for just about anything that comes across your path at reasonable ranges.Kind of like a 35 Remington on lots of steroids, and lots of shooters swear by a 35 Remington.

I have one in the takedown version that I've never fired. I just threw a Leupold 1x4 on it last Friday and I'm in the process of loading up a batch of ammo for it. I'm thinking 200Gr Hornady RN ought to do the trick for those big northern whitetails.

I have one in a take down as well, shot it a few times but I have not hunted with it, It has a Williams peep with a Firesight front, quite accurate at a 100 yards.

They are great guns, light, handy, and more accurate then people would expect from woods ranges all they way out to at least 250 yrds across those beavers ponds. I love mine and will never sell it. like previous poster advised 200's for deer, 250's for moose.

I've bought a new laminate SS BLR last fall. Great gun so far I had the trigger done which was a huge improvement. One weird thing I had happen this past weekend is that I had factory 200gr Hornady ammo that I used to sight it in (2" high at 100) last year and decided to hand load some 250gr RN over top of 44grs of h4895. When I took my first shot at 100yds I didn't even hit the target. The 250's were perfect left to right but 8" low???? I even had some 200's left to confirm this. I know there should of been some drop but wow! Anyone else experience this? Maybe I need to up the charge but book max is 44.8grs?? May just drop to 200 or 225 and try again. To the OP u can't go wrong with a 358 blr IMHO.

My 180's shoot 2" + - over the 200's.
The 250's are as you experienced.
Not sure why some on here like that big pill for mewsies.

Thanks kamlooky! The only reason I was running 250's is I have like 4-500 of them. I may try some 200gr RN I have or maybe 225 TSX.

Good shoot in' kamlooky. This is the first load I tried so I'll be doing some more experimenting. This year has been very busy and not much range time. Lookin forward to trying some more loads.

I used the 50 grns of IMR 4320 on both the 180's and 200's.
I tried 51 grns, but the noise coming out the end of the barrel changed and
50 leaves just enough room for bullets.

A whole bunch less powder on the 250's.

I got Del to cut me a Lee case length gauge for the 358win.
I may get him to make me another one, but a wee bit longer this time.
Full cases are easy to play with, no mistakes.

Heres a question for you 358 BLR owners..... how well do they feed ?.... will they handle all different bullets, round nose and pointy ?
Reason I ask is because my 358 ( not a BLR ) will not reliably cycle cartridges with a round nose bullet and I have tried different seating depths to no avail, on the other hand any cartridge with a pointed or semi - pointed bullet will feed flawlessly.
All rounds tested so far make excellent groups regardless of bullet shape, its just that one simple glitch that's frustrating especially when I find a good deal on round nose bullets...
