considering a blr (or savage 99- good luck) in 358 win. also like the 350 rem mag in the rem 673. is there any reason to get the 350 over the 358, will the difference in power matter much?

cheers

358 can be made from 308

350 rem can be made from 7 mm rem mag

comparing these 2 is like comparing 308-3006

short action vs long action

The 350RM will easily outrun a 358 Win or a 35Whelen of which the aforementioned will fit in a short action where the Whelen will require a long action.

The 673 is a sweet shooting/packing rifle & is actually a model Seven w/a rib & laminated stock to recreate the model 660 of yesteryear.

I like the BLR in 358 - having trouble finding the right powder to get the 180gr Speers zipping along. Other than that, accuracy at 100yds is about MOA. I made a bunch of 158gr pistol bullet plinking loads with formed 308 and theyve been shooting quite nicely. Despite how often I carry it afield, it has yet to be blooded.

Apples to apples the 350RM will be about 150 fps ahead of the 358 Win.

20" barrels, the 350RM will push a 225gr Partition to around 2535 fps with a handful of powders. The 358 Win will be at 2390 fps

Using Nosler's specs of 1800 fps minimum for expansion, that gets you to 340 yards with the 358 Win, and 420 yards for the 350RM

Hydrostatic 2200 fps impact comes @ 100 yards for the 358 Win, 180 yards for the 350RM

i'd like to find a 673 i think. so that is what i will look for.

Ya. If they made one in a lefty id own one. Probably an underestimated package, but they dont sell cheap if you can find one. Love the aesthetic of the vent rib and laminated stock with open sights.

I have and use them both... in general, I shoot the .358's with 200 and 225 cup & core's and the .350's with 250 Partitions. I carry both while guiding and also hunt extensively with both.

I have a 673 and it is a beautiful rifle. But my favourite 350 is my model 7 s/s. If you can find the model 7ks that would be the 350 to buy.

I've owned a few of both , and a few Whelens . I currently have a 358W built on a 98 Mauser , it's a really useful little cartridge . Like Hoyt , I've pretty much stuck to 225's ( Nosler Partition and Sierras ) in my 358 and 250's in the 350RM's . They're both great cartridges , but the 350 just has more case capacity and pushes bigger bullets faster . That being said , I've come to like the 358W just a little more than the 350RM , they're both reliable killers on big animals , but the 358 is easier on the shoulder in equal weight rifles , maybe I'm just getting old and soft .

The 700BDL is the least produced production in 350RM.
The second is the CustomShop Seven KS Synthetic.
The third is the 700 Classic.

My '91 vintage XP-100R CustomShop pushes Sie 225 SBT at 2675fps w/ 61gr of IMR 4895.
The others in possession have twins that are NIB w/ 1 being of working stock & a 673 that's NIB.

Without brass & dies the 358Win would be the best option in a short action or Model Seven.

Why bother with a 358 if your going to shoot 180s from it? A 308 would be a lot easier and do the same thing.

That was always my internal argument against the 8mm WSM...if you're going to shoot a 180 (because you want a higher velocity) why not use a diameter that enhances the BC and SD of the bullet?

That being said, I saw a nice little 325 Browning Composite Stalker at the LGS for $500 and I was tempted...because I'm an idiot.
