.35rem vs. .358win

He was comparing to the 356 not the 358 probably 100 to 150 fps slower than the 358.
Maybe so depending on the senario. I have em both (356 and 358) and they are pretty close with 220s 225s and 250s - in my handloading experience. However the 358Win will usually slightly best the 356 - often because the 358 is fired in guns usually run up to slightly higher pressures as well. I'm not sure about how the 358 factory 200gr load compares when chronographed as I've never bought any to chrony. I have chronyed factory Winchester 356 200s and 250s which are somewhat pedestrian

I can best it easily handloading for my Marlin lever - chasing the 358 performance - but usually a little behind as you say.

I ran factory 200gr. Silvertips through my BLR 358 with 20" barrel. They clocked 2480fps. My 225's are 10 fps slower so I shoot them.

I own a 35 Rem, 358 Win and a 350 RM all in bolt actions, the guns are all handloaded with the same 200 gr Hornady Spitzer they will all put down deer with great authority, I have not been able to see a difference in killing power, the furthest I have shot a deer is about 150 yds and that was with the 35, there is perhaps a difference if shooting bigger game but for deer they all seem to react the same, bang flop, all but one ran at the shot and he only went about 40 yds, if there is a difference it would be that the 358 and 350 can better take atvantage of the heavier bullets. If you can find an old 35 Rem in a Rem 600 it would be a peach of a rifle, in repeaters a 141 or model 8 would also be great. The 35 rem is a horse of a different color in a bolt or pump. Never owned one in a lever!
