Too much time on my hands in February I guess so started playing around modifying my wood stocked M750 carbine in 35 Whelen. I had an adjustable Knox NRS stock laying around with a fat Limbsaver and a glock grip wrap. So I bought a M7400 synthetic stock set for the forend which fit perfectly. However the shape of that forend still looks a bit like Grandpa's deer rifle I think. The scope also looks too old school deer camp - a 1.5x4 Bushnell.

It's all for fun and I sure kept the wood stocks at the ready for returning it to original.

Now I gotta see how it shoots in its new black configuration. It has a lower comb than the "Monte Carlo" wood stock which should be waaay better for me with the iron sights. It shoulders pretty nicely and the rubber wrapped pistol grip seems to give good control - especially good for holdng the rifle firmly into my shoulder.

Any ideas as to what should I do next to complete the transition to the dark side? This one may actually do battle in the big woods with ursus americanus.:D

A possible suggestion is to shorten the barrel and add a brake. I did this to my 35 Whelen 7600 and I am pleased with the result- handier and less recoil (although noiser- nothing is free). Another suggestion is to add a Williams receiver sight for backup. I like your mods.
 
Browsing around at images of different looks for a Remington 750, I found this one, which was by far my favorite. What do you think?

Thanks but can't legally be done since it's a semi carbine at 18 1/2" barrel length already. Threaded barrel end might work for a brake/cap - considering. Got a Williams receiver sight (WGRS) already from the gun's previous owner madtrapper143. I may give that a try now with the lower comb. An XS ghost would be less fudd like.

I thought about one under the forend - for bipod and/or ???.
See-through scope rings and a 50mm objective. Deep woods requires a light gathering scope.

That's what I had to start - NOT TACTICOOOL at all - just like my grandpa's deer rifle - very nice looking for a "fudd like" rifle. (BTW most all my rifles are "fudd like" - and suit me fine that way.)

Here's mine before I started mucking around with it.

I like it. If you're happy with it that's what matters. I've been thinking about doing something similar for a while now, once I have some cash to burn I think that's next on the list.
 
Hmmm...lose the scope and replace it with a red dot(or similar) followed by adding a flashlight or bipod to it to tacti-cool up the front end. For bonus points make the flashlight a 2 million candle power spotlight. :D (Why no officer I don't hunt at night...why do you ask? :p )

It's the Knoxx "NRS" model - "No Recoil Spring" but should be a pussycat anyway with that 1" limbsaver. Too much recoil management (pads, springs etc) and the semi action may not cycle as it should maybe. I was lazy today so I didn't get out shooting to try it anyway. I'll report here when I do - but I think it's gonna be great fun to shoot.

All interesting suggestions above guys to continue my "big timber black rifle" experiment.
