I got this back in the mail yesterday, repainted the stock and stuck the old B&L 1.5x6 on it. It may get a 1.5x5 Leupold down the road after some load work.

Dennis Sorenson fitted the pad and the stock and cut the bbl back to 21". The barrel work was done by Bevan King. Weight is a bit over 8.75lbs as shown.

When I first saw this stock, I wasn't impressed at all with the way it looked, but it turned out to be a very good one for a med-bore with the straight/wide comb and it's big/fat butt end. It's one of the older B&C jobs with the integral sling thingys. Kinda ugly for sure! The factory pad was replaced with a Limbsaver.

All the other 375s I've owned were either 24" or 25" bbls, but after seeing Crazy Dave's with the 20", I decided to get mine shortened a bit as well. It makes a huge difference in the handling to the positive.

I'm pretty pleased with it. Nothing fancy, but it does seem to fit me well and handle even better. I have a Ruger MKII Stainless/Laminated in 7Mag here that I was going to change over to 375CT as well, but if this one shoots well, the Ruger will be going down the road.

Well done! Is that a factory Remington front sight? Did you use a 7mmRM action?

I'm interested in how that baby shoots on the bench. Might be a loud one...

And just think..the non existent, hard to find, brass unavailable 375 Ruger was in my hands a year ago...And I have 100 more pieces of brass en route...Now I will have 400 brass, enough for a lifetime, really...:D

All this with lower cost and higher velocity than the 375/338...And excellent accuracy to boot. (And of course, excellent iron sights and quick detach rings came with)

Oh yeah, the Alaskan is ALL stainless, too...:)

But heck, I understand the desire to be "different" even if it *is* less efficient....;)

Front sight is a factory Remington. I wanted to keep costs down to under $1000 for the rifle, something Gatehouse won't be able to do once he buys a fiberglass stock for his rifle. :) Not sure what the action was for originally as I bought it w/o the original bbl.

Mount a low range Leupold variable on and you're set. So when do you leave for Africa?
While the plan is to later mount a 1.5x5 Leupold, don't discount the old B&L Balvars as they are quite clear, dependable with lots of eye relief. I don't think I will be going to Africa any day, but a moose hunt out west may be in the works. :)

Nice thumper! Did you chrony it before you shortened the barrel. It would be interesting to see what veolcity loss resulted.
I didn't shoot before the hack job. I'm more interested in accuracy/consistency anyways.

Of course, everything you say about the virtues of the 375Ruger is true, but I had the dies here already and a few spare parts to contribute, so I went this direction. Plus the fact that I can't buy 375Ruger ammo here in SJ makes the factory ammo advantage moot.

I doubt that your cost will be lower by the time you add a McMillan to your rifle as mine came in a bit higher than $1000 incl the scope and detachable mounts. I have a couple hundred brass already and at $30/100, it's a bargain as well. :)

Nice clean looking rifle SC. I have a similar stock on my .243, got frustrated with the sling pockets so installed QD studs. Neither the .375 Taylor or the .375/.284 got much press, but both are quite capable.

I had one of these stocks on a .338 and one of the best things was the sling
set up, quick detach are inferior to these but people get used to a certain way of doing things.

Action, barrel, stock, rings and gunsmithing went for $1000? You got a bargain. I did get 2 Hogue stocks with my rifle, and I sold one for $175, and will probably sell the other, so I will recoup some $$ if I decide to buy a Macmillan stock (presently I have a B&C stock on it);)

Can you buy 375/338 factory ammo in SJ?:D
