.375 H&H magnum recoil?

You are right it is very good that I found these pads they enable me to handle the potential punishing recoil of some of my firearms with ease and exactly the point of my comments in this thread.

I weigh 215lbs - 220lbs maybe if I was 50lbs - 60lbs heavier than I am now like some that post on CGNTZ I would make the same kind of uninformed comments as them... :p

Heck, Conni Brooks from Barnes bullets was using a .500NE while hunting in Africa. She is about 5'5" and 110-120 lbs.

I bet she doesn't think any .375 has "eye popping recoil" or "punishing" recoil....;)
:p

How many hundreds of rounds do you think Conni shot that rifle of hers while she was working up a load to become extremely proficient shooting it or do you think someone else did all of the load development/sight in for her and she shot it once or twice.

You'd have to ask her about that. Neither of us have any idea either way.

She shoots a .338 WM for much of her North American hunting, so I don't' think she is unaccustomed to recoil or describes her encounters with .375 cartridges as "eye popping":p:p

My guess is more towards the latter.

What was the name of that safari film with Roosevelt's grandson and some kid? In the end he goes after a buff with TR's 470NE or something. Kid is like 12 or 14 years old, 85lbs soaking wet. IIRC, he shoots that buff (or at the buff) 3 or 4 times, and in the end he is tearing up as they look at his trophy. I personally think he was tearing up from the recoil.

I used to shoot my uncles 8mm Rem Mag at the same age (and weight) and it never really bothered me that much. My 375 from the bench is another story, however, I agree that a good recoil pad and a well designed/fitted stock makes a huge difference - mine has neither.

When you are saying neither of us are you referring to yourself twice because I didn't say I didn't know.

It's entirely possible that she has her staff make ammo for her, but I have no clue. I do know it's largely irrelevant, just as it would be if she used factory ammo.

What actually is relevant is that she is clearly able to shoot and kill with these cartridges, and can handle the recoil. Which simply demonstrates that body mass is not a great indicator of how much recoil a person can tolerate, which is the reason I mentioned her in the first place.

I'll have to respond to this pettyness later I'm running off to the gun club for the afternoon, I just installed a brand new firing pin/spring/shroud into my 21" Rem 700 LSS 375RUM bolt and need to see how awesome it works.

I also need to re-sight in my scope that I just put back onto my Rem 700 LSS in 280 Rem that I just had Tony @ Korth do a warranty check on and I have a new to me 45 Colt barrel for my T/C Contender that I have to check out/chrono with my brand new Beta Shooting Chrony chronograph that I traded my old one for that finally arrived yesterday.

Oh yeah almost forgot I put a new MGM scope base onto my 223 Contender carbine barrel 2 days ago so will be re-sighting that scope in as well.

You guys have fun playing on your computers... :D
