375 H+H Solids

What .470 ya got? I bought a Merkel a few years back and quite like it.
A PH I hunted with last trip brained a problem elephant, who was trying to climb in the truck with the 3 of them, at 5mtrs with a .470 and a Woodleigh 500 gn SOFT. He meant to use the solid in the other barrel but pulled the wrong trigger in all the excitement and killed him stone dead with the soft. He was impressed as was I.

I think the next double will be a Heym in .577, not sure why but my rationale has never been why, it's always been why not?

I bought a Merkel from TradeEx after a bad friday at work.:D It's a great rifle that I'm still waiting to try out on game.

How would you guys rate 300 gr Nosler Pattitions to TSX and soft Wooleighs?

My PH in Zimbabwe (Ian Gibson - not exactly a wet-behind-the-ears guy) has a real hate on for Nosler Partitions. I think that for those guys they probably don't need too many bad incidents with a given bullet to condemn them outright. I used the Hornady DGX on my buff and it worked perfectly, single shot through the engine block. Died within 20 yards when shot at just over 100 yards. Hard to fault that performance.

Unfortunately I am unable to obtain 400gr Barnes Banded Solids for my Ruger No.1 in 450/400 NE 3", and for some reason Barnes do not produce a .410" calibre 400gr TSX.

From my experience, for deep penetration on Buffalo I cannot recommend enough the Woodleigh Hydrostatic Monolith Solid. The current design is great in single and doubles, but can have issues in some bolt repeaters. Woodleigh is producing a re-engineered Solid with a black plastic cap for reliable feeding in bolt repeaters.

The 400gr Woodleigh Hydro Solid broke the pelvis and travelled full length of this Bull.

The 400gr Woodleigh Hydro Solid entered and exited the Cow's head, re-entered in the shoulder, travelled along the spine and exited out near the derriere.

In comparison the Woodleigh Hydro Solid penetrates much deeper and travels straighter than a traditional FMJ. I would assume the Barnes Banded Solid would have similar performance.
