.375 H&H Vs .338win VS. 9.3 X62?

Neck is miles ahead of head, I'll never take a headshot unless it's life or death. Not uncommon for headshots on moose to be deflected either with the slightest angle and not go where intended. There's really no reason to brain shoot a cervid unless we're talking poachers or culling with small calibers. The brain case is a miniscule target, that moves constantly (and is surrounded by bone), even under the best conditions.

back to the topic.

the 375 ruger is the best of course but someone did bring something else the 375 scotvill is a good choice too but the 9.3*64 is an excellent combinaison too ....
of course 338 win mag another good choice and 9.3*62 excellent choice.

my suggestion buy all of them try and report here.

It is the way I do things. I do not insist that it is the proper way. Quit trying to twist my words.

Well excuse the hell out of me, but to use your own words . . .

Most of my shots these days are clean head shots to the brain or high neck shots. Not used to aiming for the lungs anymore.:)

Naturally I assumed that you, like most of us, would by choice do things the proper way, ergo you think headshots are the proper way. But you’re going to do what it is you do, so have at it. I think these posts have been valuable though in that they might help someone who is contemplating using a headshot, understand that there is a down side. Like CC, many of us have tried it, but now realize there is a better way.

A controlled, relaxed, well placed head/neck is much better than shooting a moving animal in the guts or arse, or lobbing a volley of impossible Hail Mary's like many Fudds stricken with buck fever are wont to do.

No kidding... :p

but with that said a well placed controlled shot to the chest/lungs/heart is a far bigger/better target ...

In my early 20's I was hunting with my Hawken flintlock .54 and that was the last time of my life that I did aim for a head shot at a deer... please don't ask me why...

TMG, just so you know that I understand there is another side to the argument, there was an Australian fellow who used to post on here who was a commercial market hunter. We got friendly and emailed back and forth for a while. He killed all of his commercial meat animals with head shots with a Remington 40X target rifle. I recall he was bemused by our reluctance to use the headshot. I don't recall what cartridge he used, possibly a .22-250 or a 6mm of some description, for kangaroos and similar sized game. So upon reflection, my previous statement that I only knew of one individual who used head shot was in error.

Boomer, a guy I worked with when I was on the tools had also been invloved in market hunting when he lived in Australia. The rifle he used 'may' have also been a 40X, but all I know is that it was a top end Remington and in 243. His shot of choice was also a head shot. There've been a few occasions where I've taken a head shot but it's not my shot of choice. I was with him on a few Deer hunts here on the island and the two shots I saw him make, were head shots, but then he's a considerably better shot than yours truly:).

This one has high capability to engage the target and REMOVE the head completely - at very far distances I might add.:)

Update:I was just informed, the rifle he used in Australia in his market hunting days was a Remington 700 BDL Varmint rifle in 243.

What is the next hunting trip scheduled for the .375 CT SuperFudd?;)

paul,

this is a nice rifle and close in the look of my 375 ruger with laminated stock and stainless steel but mine wasnt a custom just a special run of 93 ....

even if you cannot before 3 years for big game hunting you can come up again just for fishing ...

'Clint' said he could do that with his 44:p. Just pushing your buttons a little;). Any details on the rifle and loads?

She pushes out 300 gr bullets @3050 fps.

I kid you not when I say that head shots are possible at 700 yards with ease. I use 500 ml water bottles for practice at that range. 1 gallon milk jugs at 1000 yards.
