375 Ruger Brass

now....get rid of the pistol barrel and install a 22-23" tube....get a factory laminate handle....have it checkered and you'd have a nice one....don't forget to evaluate the muzzle blast in the range report..:)..seriously though..way to go..now we'll have some real world data to examine..what scope will it hold?

Just got off the phone and I've got RCBS dies (couldn't find Redding) and 100 260gr Accubonds on the way.

The 260gr Accubond at 3000 fps *may* kill a moose.:p

I'll be using the exact same formula in my 375 Hawkeye African for Nevada elk this November. After 40+ years of applying for a tag, I drew this year.:dancingbanana:

Our elk aren't many, but they are emormous. I should get something between 350 and 410 B&C.

As much as I hate to admit it, I love it! I need one ASAP :runaway: :D

you're right, M77's are very similar to Mini 14s!

Not quite mt point, Tod. I'm sure they are fantastic, I just can't foresee myself giving Mr. Ruger anymore of my $.

At any rate, let us know how she shoots.

Is anybody chambering them other than Ruger?

Ruger = :puke:

(after the mini-14/30, I just can't buy another one.....)

I don't know of anyone chmabering them othe rthan Ruger, but you could buy my stainless Mdl 70 STW, and have one built, as reamers are readily available.

What is your experience wiht Ruger bolt action rifles that you dont like them?

I've had a few and always found them dependable and accurate.

Oh, c'mon! The STW has a full-length Magnum action. You could fit a real H&H, or a RUM, or maybe even a 378 in that bad boy

'Mr. Ruger' - Bill Ruger Sr. - is dead. Ruger Firearms is a publicly traded corporation :D

I personally happen to like the model 77. A lot :) You hear people talking about how great the 'pre-64' Winchester model 70 was? Well that's basically what the 77 is now.

Brass arrived today, picked it up about half an hour ago. No dies yet, but I was eager....

I removed the expander from some Redding 375 H&H dies, screwed it onto some 300RUM dies, and gingerly straightened the mouth of the case.

Then I primed, dumped in a light load of H4350 powder and seated a 300 GR Norma steel jacket bullet on top, using 300 RUM seating die.

(****note: this is not condusive to perfect accuracy!:) )

Walked out of my shop and onto the range and fired the single round, jjust to check it out.

The velocity was 2400FPS (moderate) and I can only describe the recoil as "moderate." Yes, you know it is there, yes, it is above the recoil of a 223, but frankly it was much more of a pleasure to shoot than some 30-06's I've shot, with ill fitting stocks and hard buttplates.

No pressure sign, the bolt opened with a finger flip.

I should get some factory ammo tomorrow, and dies shortly afterwards, so no more shooting using the jury rigged dies, I have no intention of cranking up the FPS without proper sizing/seating.

When it all comes together I will post a big range report. Maybe shoot a crow or somethign to see if it will kill.:)

I must add that I owe much of this (well, all of it) to Tod Bartell, who arranged with a supplier several months ago to get this rifle, and pulled a few strings and got me some brass and factory ammo. He's not just a pretty faced ballistic genius, he understands fantastic customer service, too!!!

And just think, it was only a few years ago that John Y Canuck and I found him as a baby, in a basket on the doorstep, with a note that said "Teach my boy to reload and hunt and post on the intraweb!"

You know dude, you could have just left him there - the sun would have still come up the next day  Oil well. Thanks for nothing I guess. :shotgun:
