375 Ruger Brass

Clark, I was just sent a care package that had one of your prized cases in it for my collection. She is quite the monster!

How does it feed with the minimal body taper?
Have you done an offical weigh in of the rifle?
How's the trigger?

Oh boy, here come the questions again [sigh].

The factory ammo shoudl get here tomorrow via courier, so I will let you know about feeding

It weighs 8 lbs on my bathroom scale, should take it in to work for real weigh in

trigger is 5# according to my tirgger pull guage.

I know you are not much of a fan of open sights, but what are your opinions of the factory sights?

Walked out of my shop and onto the range and fired the single round, just to check it out.
That's pretty encouraging to shoot a "one hole group" 1st time out. :p

What is the bbl length on that Ruger? Maybe I can get my 375/338 done with the same length and we can do a friendly comparision.

I like GOOD open sights, like them alot. I ***HATE*** crappy iron sights, liek the buckhorns on many lever guns, etc/.

These irons are very, very good. Sturdy. Easy to see. Easy to use.

(Okay, I've shot one round, at a beer can. I'll let you know more when I use them a bit more. Then I will install scope):D

gatehouse, if you take the time to weigh it on a good scale, could you pop it out of the stock and weigh the bbl'd action and stock separately? thanks

Im not sure what the factory Ruger pillar bedded Hogue's are, but my full aluminum bedded one is 2lbs 13 oz's... Heavy, but my 338 is a pussycat because of it... I would think that the pillar bedded model would be 8oz's to 1 lb lighter...

Ruger should start putting levers on their rings for a rifle such as that. Then when you go over tea kettle in the mud you can whip the scope off in a jiffy and go for a run in the alders.;)

The Express Ruger I held had very nice irons on it too. Very shallow vee and a nice bead.

I do hope you are scheduling a tour nation wide for your fellow CGN'ers to try your gun. Call Ruger and get signed up as a rep.

To be honest Paul, in sheer velocity I am not so sure the 375/338 will even come close to this one. I held a 416 Taylor up beside the case last night and it was dwarfed big time!

The more I think about QR rings, the less I like them. I dont' know if I will ever have a need to remove a scope any faster than I can unscrew the base screw of the Ruger rings. You can remove them pretty darn fast!:)

I was comparing the Ruger case to an H&H, 7RM and 300 RUM and 300WM case last nigth. The RUM by far was the largest, of course. The Ruger dwarfed the 7RM case.

I don't see how any sane person coudl get the same velocity out of a 375/338 that you could out of the Ruger. I didn't measure water capacity, but I sure wonder if the 375/338 duplicates H&H velocities with the same pressure. The case is straighter walled of course, but the H&H sure looks like it has more room in there...

The 375 RUM looks like a 300WM withthe case the same diameter as the belt.

I hear you. I was all excited to get some Talley's for my rifle but when they came the levers were on the charging side of the reciever, opposite where I prefer them. IIRC the Warnes are on the bolt stop side but they are square and sharp. Does anyone not make nicley finished rings that won't set me back $500+

My CZ rings are blocky and ugly compared to the rifle they go on too. They aren't QD but the Allen head screws are always a bear because the wrenchs do not fit them worth beans..

Rant off.

So when are you stopping by Cochrane on your new distibutor route? I am sure Dr. Grace Bartell will want a cut of the proceeds you make selling these babies all across the land.;)

I have no doubt the Ruger would trump the smaller 338 case. I don't need that extra velocity anyways. I was just interested in the comparision. I had a 375/338 before, but never got a chance to shoot it over the chrony before I sold it.

Take a look at leupold. Very nicely shaped levers and I believe they are on the bolt stop side as well.

Shot a coupld of factory rounds this morning....

Recoil is not bad at all. I shot the 375 Ruger, then the 7RM and the 375 again. I guess the 375 feels like it recoils a bit more, but it's not a big deal. If you can shoot a 12 guage with slugs you can shoot the Ruger, easy.:)

OK, I got my rifle in my lap, and I can't see why I couldn't mount the Talley QD rings with the lever on either side of the rifle, or for that matter mount one port and one starboard.

Boomer I sold the rings as they were too low for my rifle. What rifle are your rings for?
IIRC, the ring would only fit one way on the reciever. I took it apart to try and reverse it.

I'd hate to curb Clark's thread here, we have a ring forum going on in the gunsmithing forum. My crossbolt thread has been violated much to Guntech's displeasure. Perhaps we should continue this topic there? That or I start a third thread and try to keep track of all of them. LOL

Gate, two questions. Is it accurate? Does instrument velocity match the hype?

Using iron sights, I was able to hit a beer can at 40 yards, with both shots..Highly accurate!

Velocity wasn't checked. I only had a few minutes to shot prior to heading for work. More to come...
